Multi-Syllables vs. Punchlines vs. Content

Postby Satire » Apr 15th, '11, 21:16

Swizzz thread continuation.

YES FAGGOT I AM FULLY AWARE THAT YOU PREFER RAPPERS WHO HAVE ALL THREE AND THAT'S WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR IN AN MC. WELL THAT'S NOT AN OPTION HERE, BITCH, SO INSTEAD OF SAYING WHAT I ALREADY KNOW, PROVIDE SOME DISCUSSION AND ANSWER THIS "WHAT IF" POLL.

Okay, so lets pretend there's this rapper. He has a smooth delivery, an amazing flow (Yes, he can double time when he wants to), very original/banging production, and a super sexy voice. You can't wait for his debut album because his words arouse you, he has his own style and when his voice comes out of the car stereo while your mom is driving you to school in the morning, it make you feel special. The problem is that he's lyrically retarded and doesn't know how to balance between the 3: Multis, Punchlines, & Content. He only knows how to portray one aspect of lyricism in his music.

On one side there's content, great concepts, some really playful, fun story telling & emotional/introspective words being thrown around as well as the occasional song for the masses.

Then there's Punchlines: Extremely clever, mind-blowing puns, wordplay, etc. It explains itself really.

And then there's multis. He would essentially be rhyming sentences with sentences. The rhyming of the writing, and what some people call "the execution".

Okay unlikely situation aside, out of the 3, if you had to choose one (Only one), ONLY ONE, which would you rather see in a rapper?

Dead last would be punchlines, fuck that. There are rappers who can go their whole careers without saying a single punchline and nothing goes wrong.

It's a hard decision between multis and content. But, I would have to go with content. This fictional guy wouldn't be my fav. MC because of his lack of rhyming but I guess he would be someone I like and could listen to occasionally.

CONTENT.

Multies.

Why? easy

if hes gonna talk abt his issues,do story tellin or whatever without impressing me to an extent with his rhyming or flow and skill.

i wont bother listening, thats just me,some of the most simple subject matters are used in quite the best hip hop tracks cuz of the way they are executed,u execute by utilizing the skill u have.

but i do really care abt content in music.

Because it ended up being pointless discussion if every one is going to quote each other, duh.

Punchlines and multi's might have atleast been somewhat of a debate.

Despite how ridiculous DA post looks, he actually has a decent point. A lot of Eminem's greatest multi syllabic songs are from a pure technical level (Hellbound, Still Don't give a fuck, etc.)

I was going to say content easily, but there's just some days, when I want to drift off and listen to a rapper shred a beat.

This. Sometimes it just sounds beautiful to my ears, like R.A the rugged man in uncommon valor, like Em in hellbound, all she wrote (second verse yeahh),..

But i don't agree with the " i rap fast just to rap fast " and i got tired of busta using the same flow now in every fucking song he makes.

without em's wit and cleverness on every line back then PLUS the awesoem technichality, it would've been the same

What type of comparison are you making? My post was mostly referring to songs where Em shreds a beat doesn't really have that much of a concept behind it.
