Will Recovery age well?

Postby FreeSpeech » Apr 19th, '11, 17:04

Some albums just have timeless sounds, like Ready to Die, TES, food and Liquor, etc. However, some albums sound very dated only ten years after their release. Will Recovery be like this? It's sound is very coherent with the Boi-1da style of today, but I feel like this will be forgotten very soon. I don't think it will have a permanent place in hip hop.

What say you?

No one knows, we'll see in 10 years.

Was listening to 50's Get Rich Or Die Tryin' album earlier. That has aged well. 8 Years old and still sounds fresh in 2011

I think Em's rapping on it will age fine, like all of his rapping. Take his rapping on The Slim Shady LP for example, that's like 12 years ago, and still sounds fresher and tighter than anything now.

Doesn't sound dated at all.

But I think the production and music won't date very well because most of it is tacky and just pandering to present times, and trying to fit in. Em's other albums all age great musically because they used live instruments and come up with original, striking music...

Where as with Recovery you just have what sound to me, cheap, tacky beats made by bedroom boffins. So no, I don't think as a whole it will age well. But I think the reason Em himself never sounds old or dates is because... he raps like you would speak as in...

Regardless of whether his flow is fast, slow, tricky or whatever, he writes conversationally and naturalistic ally. Even his more recent and arguably much more choppy lyricism - he uses writers' phrases and, elevated grammar and, he talks to the listener and he has so much verbal energy. It's really not easy to condense and explain in a paragraph but, yes I think Em's rapping will age well.

Yeah, overall I think it will age well. Like others have already said I think the only thing that wouldn't age well is the production on the album.

Well the only thing that i see is gonna help this album to age well is because of songs like well the obvious "LTWYL" and maybe "Space Bound" AND maybe because of the fact that for the first time in his career he went for so many pop/r&b artists collabs.

Well, to me yes, because I really enjoy the album. I'm starting to enjoy tracks that I didn't before (W.T.P., Almost Famous). I still listen to it even to this day because I love the album. But to others, they probably don't feel the same way as I do.

I haven't listened to, or even felt like listening to Recovery in full since the week it leaked

Maybe it will age well, hard to say when it's been out for less than a year
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Like others have said, the only prob is the production aspect.
It has not even been a year, so we'll see...
