You know I usually agree with you, but I can't go with you that Illmatic decimated the West, I'll say it breathed new life into NY and got them back in the spotlight and showed they were a huge force in the rap game, but I can't agree it defeated everything from the West. I will back you up and say Illmatic, 36 Chambers, and I'll throw in Ready to Die, were all instant classics from the jump.

Nah homie I'm with you, when I say it decimated the West, I mean one release from one artist took the hip hop spotlight away from an entire coast full of releases from great artists.

When the West took over, they had a few classic albums by different artists in succession that put them on top, but for New York, that one album shifted the game again.

It's crazy good, I love it, I just think it's overrated. That's not at all to say it wasn't grounbreaking or influential, it obviously was. I just think it's overrated.

And I think DA is mad. He really is a moron, like, straight up stupid. He also does not know the meaning of "cliche". You don't actually have to be from the US to be part of the Hip Hop culture. Every single country in the world can have a Hip Hop culture. Just look at the countries --outside of the US-- who are, whom I consider, heavy weights in the Hip Hop genre category. UK, France, Brazil, Germany, and Japan. These countries all have their very own Hip Hop culture, growing up in such a country --and being exposed to Hip Hop at an early age-- would mean that you grew up in a Hip Hop culture.

I, myself, grew up in a Hip Hop culture, eventhough I've never been to the US. The Netherlands has a pretty strong Hip Hop movement, and my uncle was the prime reason I got exposed to rap at a very early age.

I meant that he has 0 exposure to AMERICAN hip hop culture, which is what we were essentially talking about. But yes, I do realize their are tons of other hip hop cultures worldwide that i have no experience with.

MBDTF is not a classic. I already made my statements about Kanye in another thread. However it is a good album. I will add in my opinion is it a breath of fresh air for mainstream hip hop. However it is not a classic, maybe a few years from now my opinion will change, I understand the concept to it but in reality from a Hip Hop stand point it is not a classic for me. I believe the problem is many of us have different views on what is a classic.

GRODT is not a classic it is a cool album I can kick back and listen to but nothing points to it being anywhere near a classic.

Take some good parts and take some average parts sprinkle it with a few cringe worthy moments and you have Recovery. It is ok not great not a classic but not poor. Just a ok album.
