Lyrically/Musically/Both/Hate

Postby Satire » May 11th, '11, 02:17

Inspired by nemesis' now locked topic.

I like this lyrically:

I like this musically:

I like this in both:

And I hate this:

Do you see what I'm doing here? Obviously if you like someone lyrically you're probably going to have a taste for their music in general but try to find a line where you can separate the two for this topic. So yeah, post yours.

Word that verse is the only one that I listen to in that song. One of Elzhi's best verses the mutlies are phenomenal in that.

Good lyrics don't equal good song, though it can lead to it and helps. Maybe you don't like the way they deliver their verses or perhaps there's other external factors that stop the song from being good "musically" but being great lyrically whether wordplay wise or substantial.

I will post two in terms of lyrics
I like this lyrically, Big Pun at his best.

I like this lyrically,Big L-Ebonics

I like this Musically, but i is probably one of the most quotable songs I ever heard so it can fall into the lyrical category. Even if you guys don't understand it I know you would appreciate it musically :worship:

Rough translations which probably make these quotes seem not as good as in Russian.
"Only when you swim against the stream you understand what having a free opinion is"
"Being different means always being alone"
"I have seen how a rat turns into a mouse"

In terms of liking something both lyrically and musically I have to say

Songs I hate far to many, people probably will mention them in this thread anyway.

I also like to add I'm a big fan of "Stream of Consciousness" lyrics like Ghostface in Supreme Clientele, specifically, I always liked his over the top eccentric style and weird diction he uses to convey the images, always gives it a more poignant touch. Not to mention the beats compliment his style perfectly.

It's a wild catharsis of cleverly connected rhymes that may have you scratch your head at the complete non sequiters he spits, but it kinda hooks me in with his energetic delivery. Don't bother trying to decipher the lyrics as you'll probably just end up getting more confused, and I do know some Wu stans tried to make up meanings for his verses.

Ghost still has one of the best personalities in rap with his style.

You should work in advertising. I don't even like Ghostface but you're able to make any of your favorite artists sound amazing without sounding like a fan-boy.
