Ok, look at it this way. Let's say you don't like 2Pac. In terms of respect, he's way up there. Look at it, outside of your own eyes.

If you did do it like i said then I strongly disagree with you because Halo is somewhat like Eminem. Someone as famous as him is bound to get some hate and it MAY seem like he's hated unanimously but in reality the amount of respect Eminem gets is abundant.

That analogy is nonsensical and Halo isn't anything like Eminem other than popularity, it gets bashed by people all the time for being highly repetitive and not being innovative at all. And no Halo gets hate because it's subpar not because it's popular, Half Life is popular and it gets way more respect than Halo. It had it's 15 minute of fame like Lil Wayne and is goin to be thrown into the bargain bin in a couple of years, only people remembering it will be out of nostalgia.

Then why are the reviews that pretty much every Halo game has gotten always above 80% or an 8 out of ten? It's a critically acclaimed series. And no, reviewers in games aren't morons like almost every reviewer that reviews a Hip Hop album so don't even bring that up. It gets bashed just like Eminem gets bashed yet we all know that he's one of the most critically acclaimed rappers despite your personal opinion on his recent material

Lol @ even thinking Halo is gonna die out. Have you seen the huge ass community at bungie.net? That shit is fucking packed. There's like 10 new posts every 30 seconds. Halo's fanbase is much bigger and active than every single FPS shooter, there's more of a chance of Call Of Duty dying out. And btw, Halo has been popular for 10 years unlike COD, GOW, Bioshock or whatever the fuck wanna bring up. While Lil Wayne has been hot for a few years. Fail.

Call me a fanboy but at least I back my points up.

So explain to me how the reviewers from Video game magazines are any different from the so called "idiots" that you're naming, huh? And really you're going to try and use "He's successful, fuck what you think of him!" as the crux of your argument? And your last sentence on your first paragraph is a complete strawman/non sequiter, yeah I already know he's one of the most critically acclaimed rappers off all time and acknowledge his first three albums as great, but what the fuck does that have to do with his recent material, and I know for a fact his recent material isn't anywhere as critically acclaimed as you're setting it out to be.

Uhm, yeah It's going to die out. Really a forum community, is that what you're going to cite? Who's even talking about COD, but if you really want to get into an argument that you won't win than Counter Strike pretty much shoots down your argument about Halo being the most played FPS, when CS is is WAY more popular world wide than Halo, and it has been for YEARS.

Halo's been popular for ten years because they make games for it every 3 years, so off course it's going to be mentioned, with horrible attempts at revitalizing the franchise with games like Reach and Halo Wars, should have left if for dead after Halo 3, tbh.

So no my argument doesn't fail.

Uhhhh, yeah. Reviewers of Hip Hop music, for the most part, don't like the genre much or don't fully understand/appreciate it. I have NEVER in my life seen a review praising rhyming. They barely go into detail explaining their thoughts on the flow on different songs, overall lyricism, delivery, wordplay. They just cite a line that they think is clever, cool or controversial. Eminem as an artist, overall is considered one of the best rapper ever, right? Part of the Big 5, right? Yeah. Halo as a series is critically acclaimed. I'm sure it would make many FPS Top 10 lists.

I could cite the fact that Halo 2 is the best-selling first-generation Xbox game with 8.46 million copies sold worldwide and with at least 6.3 million copies sold in the United States or that the first-day sales of Halo 3 reached $170 million in the U.S. setting a record for highest gross of an entertainment product within 24 hours of its release. Breaking the record of Halo 2 which earned $125 million within 24 hours after its launch. Or that least four million copies of Halo 3 were pre-ordered globally, making it the fastest pre-selling game to date. Or that Worldwide more than US$ 300 million worth were sold in the first week, helping to more than double the sales of the Xbox 360 when compared with the weekly average before the Halo 3 launch. If I keep going my post would be bigger than this whole page. Bring in facts supporting that CS is more popular than Halo. Btw, I'm focusing on America here but if you want we can make this worldwide. This is all irrelevant to quality though but there's no denying that Halo is extremely popular and here to stay.

Well yeah because they're smart. They want to make sure people are wanting more from them instead of just throwing out games every year therefore decreasing the demand for the product. The former being what Eminem does, the latter being what Wayne does. Halo Wars wasn't Bungie so I don't know if it counts but I agree that it was not necessary. Reach is absolutely amazing so I disagree there.

I hope I don't come across as pissed at you or butthurt because of the length of my post. I just genuinely enjoy arguing Halo more so than Eminem (because I constantly do it) or anything else.

Um no, Hip Hop gets more than it's fair share of reviews especially if you look for them in the right places, now if your a doofus and take your reviews from IGN who can't review rap albums for shit than yeah, you're bound to find idiots that don't know what they're talking about.

No, Halo is critically acclaimed as a shooter for this generation and was good for a console shooter, so many PC shooters (PC shooters are better than console shooters btw, and no I'm not an elitist just the amount of options you have from modifying weapons, character designs, free maps, modifications, everything). PC shooters annihalate it, and it wasn't even the first console shooter to be really FPS friendly, that goes to Golden eye.

That's all nice and dandy but did you forget that CS started as a mod from HL, and not as some game meant to be shelved in stores. It is btw, still the most popular online FPS game off all time, or most popular online game off all time with it's only real rival being WOW. Anyways I'm not big on numbers, but I know it's been consistantly been on top even when games like COD4, BF2, TF2, just came out.

Anyone here

That was 4 years ago, but at it's peak I believe, can't find a current chart with all the statistics.

CS servers= 94,000
CS sources severs= 52,000

At no point in Halo's prime was it ever touching that number of servers, CS is still by the way dominant btw, whereas Halo is quickly being replaced by COD.

Oh and I could easily refute all those sales you were throwing at me with other games, but they weren't FPS, and I assume we're strictly discussing FPS, amirite? Either way, it isn't a pinnacle of the genre by any stretch and isn't akin to Eminem or 2pac in any way other than sales, maybe 50 cent, for it's popularity and trends it sets, but definitely not the heavy weights.

Well yeah because they're smart. They want to make sure people are wanting more from them instead of just throwing out games every year therefore decreasing the demand for the product.

I see you missed the point of me even saying that in the first place, I meant to say that they make it every three years to keep it relevant, I wasn't trying to claim that they should copy Madden and shit one out every other year.

The former being what Eminem does, the latter being what Wayne does. Halo Wars wasn't Bungie so I don't know if it counts but I agree that it was not necessary. Reach is absolutely amazing so I disagree there.

Um, no Eminem releases albums just about back to back other than his long hiatus Encore, and with that garbage I could understand why, he'd take a long break.

Halo is stale. I don't care to read anyone's argument on the subject because I'm simply stating factual information. Halo is successful because it's good at doing one thing. Game companies such as Bethesda (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Rage, etc) concentrate on making innovative products and reaching new heights for industry standards in terms of play style, quality, content, etc. Bungie on the other hand is a one trick pony, and that one trick has been milked with the same product since their initial success with it. Is that bad? Hell no it's not bad. It's great, and it's something every gaming company wants. Halo is a massive franchise, and its made the shooter genre more "adult" friendly. It's accomplished a lot financially, but unfortunately sales aren't innovation.

Is Halo the leader of the shooter genre just because of sales? No. In terms of innovation, quality, fun, etc, Halo is far behind many. Is it good? Yes. Is it successful? Yes. Is it the best? Maybe in some peoples opinion it is. But, is it the leader of the genre? No, because games like: Dead Space, BioShock, GOW, (Brink, and the upcoming RAGE) are all making a leap forward (or at least attempting to innovate the genre), while Halo continues to perform that same old trick...

Halo is the Soda of the shooter genre. It's not the best thing for you, but a lot of people want it regardless.

Why... WHY? Why did you have to divide this :facepalm

There are some reviews that are actually good but they never go into a decent amount of detail with what I stated. Most reviews/ers are morons or just not knowledgable enough and yes I have read a fuckload of reviews, enough to form my opinion/statement on the matter. I'm pretty sure most of the active HHD members can make better reviews. Me included :smoking:

Let's bring in more facts (yay!). Halo is way past critically acclaimed actually. There's a reason that when a really, REALLY good FPS comes out they call it the "Halo Killer".

GameRankings: Metacritic:

Halo: Combat Evolved = 95.58% = 97/100.
Halo 2 = 94.56% = 95/100.
Halo 3 = 93.53% = 94/100.
Halo 3: ODST = 85.14% = 83/100
Halo: Reach = 91.59% = 91/100.

Basically every game (except ODST which sucks but still managed to get a B) is considered an "A" game. You cannot tell me that this series is just "good" for its generation. No, it's well in its way to being considered an all time classic series with these numbers + popularity... yeah. I hate PC shooters so I really can't agree with you at all but it doesn't matter because we're not discussing PC shooters here (yes, I know I never said so but I really don't wanna get into PC games discussion).

I have never ever in my life heard of this game ever EVER (ever....) being more popular than Halo. Now, that you say that it's the most popular online.... uhmmmm well yeah sure but that's because people don't play Halo online as much as they do on the console. Is CS available on a console? I think it isn't and if it is then on that platform it is not more popular than Halo. That's for sure. If you're telling me that online it's more popular than Halo? I'm not sure but since you brought up facts and I don't know where to get mine, I'll give it to you. But, overall Halo is more popular than CS. Doesn't matter what platform we're talking about, Halo is more popular. Btw, there have been 1 million Halo Reach games played in the last 24 hours which I'm sure is much more than 64k servers full of 8/16/32 people. But, we're comparing different platforms so I guess it's irrelevant but I just wanted to throw in a number to refute that.

Yes, we're only talking FPS here. tbh, I firmly believe Halo is the Eminem of FPS games. You may bring up that COD has sold more as a series but Halo is only exclusive to Xbox while COD is PS3 and Wii. Yet, the numbers aren't very far apart.

I see you missed the point of me even saying that in the first place, I meant to say that they make it every three years to keep it relevant, I wasn't trying to claim that they should copy Madden and shit one out every other year.

Yeah, I know that. It's still a smart strategy.

Um, no Eminem releases albums just about back to back other than his long hiatus Encore, and with that garbage I could understand why, he'd take a long break.

One year from SSLP to MMLP (because he was new to the game). Two years from MMLP to TES and TES to Encore. Five years from Encore to Relapse (if we don't count the Re-Up). One year from Relapse to Recovery because it's his comeback and he owes his fans music. That's not the point though. Eminem doesn't release much material in collabs/random songs/mixtapes/weekly series like other rappers do therefore increasing demand for his music like Halo does by having a 3 year gap.

The 3 year gap has nothing to do with strategy ^ and if it does, Bungie is the dumbest company ever. I believe that time is for development, as most good game companies take a break after release, then they enter a pre-production mode for their new title, writing, rendering, etc, then the development/direction stage, etc, debugging, etc. That could take over 5 years depending on the engine and scale.

I guarantee it has little to do with strategy to control their market. Halo is popular, but it's not because of marketing, it's because it's a game that a lot of people enjoy. They don't need a scheme, they have a nitch.

Also, the metacritic reviews you posted are irrelevant, because Black Ops to me (and most people I know) was a below average shooter with cookie cutter appeal, yet it was rated 9.5-10 by many, MANY, MAAAAANY critics. Critic reviews for major games are meaningless for the most part, hell, I remember a producer from IGN mentioning how many game companies pay critics with information in exchange for positive reviews (which those critic sites need to stay in the lead).

I'm not arguing that Halo isn't good, I'm just sayin.
