Rap In UK - Why isn't it as respected as Grime is?

For a good year i've been making tracks and getting feedback on them seeing where i need to improve, but ome people just don't like my songs even though they'd rather listen to some grime mc talk about the usual nonsense about his ends, gang and how he'll shank someone. anted, i ain't the best rapper by a long shot, but it seems that UK rappers don't get as much respect. I know some feel it's American but people like Plan B and Akala wo can alter their flow don't get as much praise as Skepta or Dizzee Rascal.Can anyone offer another explanation?

im form UK and i prefer Akala to the likes of dizee, but its completely different styles and to compare them is wrong, the people who you talk about obviously like the rawer sound and style.

Because 'UK Rap' sucks (well, the Rhyme Asylum type stuff) and is just a cheap imitation of superior US rap, which no one wants to hear.

Grime was the best thing to come out the UK Urban scene back in the day but has now fell off so bad, with everyone trying to do a Tinie Tempah/Tinchy Stryder and be a pop star. But it was original to the UK, it was different, and it was epic.

Now it's 'road rap' that is leading the way. The likes of Giggs, Youngs Teflon, Fix Dot'M etc coming with that real street shit, and everyone has jumped on it because grime fell off

I like Plan B, but his last album was too much of a step down I prefered his first album and mixtapes. For him it was good though, his albums been suprisingly sucessfull.

I like Dizzee as well, his first album was dope, his last couple albums i didnt bother with, too much pop/dance music.

As for Tinie, i like some of his songs

Giggs and K Koke are dope and some of them rappers on channel AKA are just embarrassing

How was grime epic? I don't wanna hear some arsehole rap about how many people he beats up and shanks to a beat that sounds like it was farted out of FL Studio's anus. Granted there's good grime, but a good majority of it is just what I described above.

And you really need to quit with the RA hate, we get it, you don't like em, but defacing their name everywhere you go is not the way to go about proving that your grime is better than it. If anything, making and bumping all these threads just to say what is essentially "Grime > Rhyme Asylum" just makes you seem a tad obsessive.

You said in another thread Rhyme Asylum make you ashamed of your country; well that's what grime does for me. I lived with some people at Uni and the two lads couldn't be more diverse with music. One of em was a hip hop fan, RA, AOTP, JMT, all this shit. The other one listens to WOBWOBWOWBOWBWOB dubstep and the only hip hop he knows is grime, where he walks around rapping about "brap brap, me and my crew, i'll break your jaw so you can't chew". That's paraphrased a tad, but the jaw line is word for word. Now really, is that what you consider good music? And you wanna say that's better than ANY of Rhyme Asylum's lyrics? Seriously just shut up. That's like if you just said "i'll choke you so you can't breathe", it's the most unimaginative, just bland violent shit ever.

Oh yeah Kez....for the record, I am a fan of the likes of Akala, Lowkey, and Logic etc.....and they are generally considered good lyricists and "conscious rappers" with a good positive message.
