Article: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.1 ... solo-album

Esco reveals he's inspired by Odd Future, Frank Ocean and Drake for his forthcoming LP.

Nas may not be putting out Lost Tapes 2, but promises to deliver with his forthcoming solo album. The Queens, New York rapper spoke with Billboard.com about progress to the follow-up to 2008’s Untitled, claiming that he’s in a new state of mind and is inspired by new cats in the game.

“The last record I did was, I was in a different place than I am now,” he said. “Now, I’m happy to express that different place and I’m just happy about music. I’m watching everyone do their thing, young guys, women, artists just doing they thing.”

Naming Odd Future, Lil Wayne, Drake and more as current influences, Nasty Nas said that his tenth solo LP doesn’t yet have a concept. “My new album that I’m working on is free flowing,” he said. “At this point, there’s not one concept that sums up the whole record. I’m just flowing. It’s really too early to tell who I’ll be collaborating with.”

He also acknowledged that Untitled wasn’t an entirely solid record, and that he’s learned from his mistakes. “I don’t want to look back on this record – because I can look back on my last record and I know that record, some songs didn’t belong there. I really overthought it. I don’t want it to be like that on this record,” he continued. “I want to be able to play this next record after it’s done and feel like I did it. I have to do something that’s new. It’s just in me. I have to do something that feels like it’s right right now, and it could last.”
The devil ain't on a level same as him!

Looking forward to it. Still none the wiser as to what they're all seeing in Drake...

Corny punchlines and auto-tuned, psuedo RnB chorus'? yeah, wow. How original and inspiring :confusion: . He's such a lame fuck and so irritating lmao.

So hopefully Nas won't be imitating any aspects of Drake directly.

I do feel a lot of people just 'go along' with perceptions. As in, a lot of rappers too and just say Drake or X is killing it or one to watch right now, simply because they have hype surrounding them and they don't wanna look out of touch or like 'haters'.

Glad to hear him mention Odd Future though. That's more the ticket.

I think if you ask Nas about one great Drake song he would freeze.

Nas comments stem from his 2002 infamous interview when he blasted the radio, new popular MCs (Nelly, Dipset) and the hip hop audience. This is on youtube. Ever since then, he's been questioned about that and he has said he regretted it. He has clearly understood since to support new artists (no matter how crap they are) as it's part of the hip hop movement. Not to mention he had to go through pissing off everyone in the hip hop community with Hip hop is dead.

It's sad that he has to hold back, but I think he has bigger fish to fry in terms of social struggles and problems, he has to pick his battles, no time going at the crap MC's when there is other things to concentrate on.

This a thousand times, I never got the hype with Drake.

Nas wrote:“The last record I did was, I was in a different place than I am now,” he said. “Now, I’m happy to express that different place and I’m just happy about music. I’m watching everyone do their thing, young guys, women, artists just doing they thing.”

To me, this just translates to, "i've got my place in hip hop, I have become complacent, so I don't give a fuck how lazy these new artists' lyrics are, I'll still listen to it."

This. Drake has a ton of potential, but I don't see what Nas can take from him. I think Nas is mostly inspire my OF's individualism.

As for Wayne, he's the worst person to take any cues from right now. John is possibly the most pathetic huge album single solely because it is a remix of a mediocre Rick Ross track. 6'7' was cool for a few listens, but it's insanely annoying. Every feature Wayne's had recently has been garbage. Unless Nas is hearing some Weezy songs we aren't, IDK what he's thinking...

I really hope he's got more solo songs than collabos.
I also like that he's got OF in the album, i hope to hear some of their heavy bass production on their :y:

Oh and people quickly say that Em sold out because he had Wayne in his album and they don't say shit when others do it?LOL, that just proves that some of you guys are just angry stans!

He never said OF is on it, but Frank Ocean is the only one I see working well.

Well put. :y:

I must note though, I'd LOVE a Frank Ocean feature on the album.
