The West Coast rapper drops off his latest, featuring production from 9th Wonder, Madlib, Alchemist and more.

Blu has unexpectedly released his latest offering J e s u s, putting up the project for a $10 download via Bandcamp. The 11-track project is entirely devoid of guest appearances, but features production from an all-star roster including Alchemist, Madlib, Hezekiah, Knxwledge, Nathan, 9th Wonder and his beatsmith alias Godlee Barnes.

The Los Angeles, California native most recently put out his unreleased debut Her Favorite Colo(u)r. Before putting out the LP, he spoke on how he likes to approach new albums. "Every project I approach, I don’t want it to sound like anything else," he said. “I feel like I’m going to be producing a lot longer than I’ll be rapping."

Blu also plans on releasing his third solo studio album NoYork! later this year.

I switched to listening to Her Favorite Colo(u)r, it sounds really really good so far.

Herfavoritecolour is a mastered version of his first (free) release, 30 minutes long. It's been out for a while since he leaked it from Myspace. Really good for what it is especially with the better quality and though I can't figure out the concept of it with the movie samples I've given it almost as many spins as Below The Heavens. I love the mellow yet somewhat nostalgic vibe of the music and the switch-ins with instrumental tracks work surprisingly well.

As for Jesus, I took a couple listens of the samples on Bandcamp when someone linked it on StudioLeaks and although the production was good, I found some of the quality almost unlistenable lol. The vocals on the tracks I listened to were WAAAAAAYY too loud (Which is funny, because on Colour they're really low, except in that case it kind of works) so I just stopped from there, I'll give it a fairer listen tonight.

Edit: Posted. I took a listen of more of the tracks with my speakers turned down a bit and I liked it lol. While the mixing is still bad (on purpose?), really the most annoying part of the entire album is the adlibs. Doowhop+ was my favorite track.
