That 1 Good Artist You Could Never Get Into

Postby Satire » May 20th, '11, 22:49

This is killing me. Everybody has that one artist that you constantly see being praised but, even though you could acknowledge their talent as an MC, you could never fully get into their albums, whether it be because of their voice, their sound, their content, their religious overtones, etc., so who is yours?

For me it's Pharoahe Monch, ever since I heard him on that Mos Def song. I mean, I know he's good, I can tell just from his verses, but something about his music just turns me off. I WANT to like him, but I can't. I downloaded Desire & W.A.R. this weekend to see if anything's changed, but it hasn't, it just bored me. "It felt like a chore listening to him" as diction once said. I've never really liked the old school sound when it's embedded in new school music so maybe that's it but I just don't like it :'(

Royce Da 5'9

I honestly can't get into his music, only shit that I've really liked from him was his verses on Bad Meets Evil. Other than that he just comes of as a pale, lifeless mc who performs yawn inducing cliche hardcore rap, doesn't help that I find his production drab as well. I mean he has all the technicalities down of a decent mc, but he's just so tacky and corny with his punchlines and comes off as a glossy try hard mc, that appeals towards the preteen demographic.

I'm so confused by you (and I disagree about the flow thing). You've praised him many times before, but in this post are you saying you think he's amazing or do you not get why he's amazing?

He put "Regardless" as one of his choices for hated Hip-Hop songs so I would assume so.

Hahahahaha classic find!

Yeah RA really aren't massively popular, they're very underrated. (inb4 One Mic comes in and says they're not known cause they're shit.)

There's a huge amount of good artists i'm not really into:

Tupac
Biggie
Eazy E
Royce
Budden
Joell
Crooked
Lupe
Rakim
Nas
Mobb Deep

I know all of them, i've listened to their music i'm just not a huge fan. They're listenable & I have favorite tracks by all of them on my iTunes but i'm never going to be a huge fan of theirs because of my Hip Hop preference. Also I don't know if people consider Mac Miller good or not but he fucking sucks, seriously that motherfucker is horrible. Who makes songs dedicated to their fucking shoes?
