I'm with dr3, I never liked this song. And I never thought it was a decent "tribute" either

As pointed out, this is not a small group of people. Mostly its because of, possibly, Eminem's worst hook ever. Yeah, its got emotion- but the kim like screaming is uncontrolled and not pleasant on the ear at all. Further compounded by the fact that its at the end of Recovery- an album full of loud screeching.

Hey, since its a Difficult Vs YNO thread anyway, Difficult is >>

Difficult can go suck a cock. I used to really, REALLY love the song for a week and then I realized that it was a piece of garbage (when compared to YNO).

The second verse on YNO shits on Difficult in every aspect of rapping including emotion. Lyrically, it's really not a contest... AT ALL.

^Cold Wind blows and wont back down are basically that and the restof the album has unwelcome moments of it. Lets just say by the time i got to YNO my hears were hurting.

agreed. The hook is awesome afterwards, but its a very unpleasant intro first 3 listens.

YNO is awesome and it's message is incredible. I think he mentions tht stuff just because he's an incredible lyricist and those lines flowed like gold. em has even said in interviews that his favorite song on recovery is your never over and for good reason. fuck the haters ! I love it ^^

I don't like the hook and the beat, but the verses are great.

End of actual discussion.

Ps, I dunno what's with all the hate on that mustard line, it wasn't that big of a fuckin deal.

Menzo ftw, on all accounts.

Amadeo, I think there were clear reasons to his first verse, just not clear to the average listener, tho I could be wrong. You hinted at that in your OP, which I think is most likey the case :y:

I don't think he had to have some rational reason for putting the lines there.

I think as usual he started to write aimlessly and then it became what it should be.

You can spot the pattern in many of his songs because in his own words, he follows his pen or, sees where his pen takes him or whatever.

You can see the same thing in "Mosh". He wastes a good proportion of the first verse talking about himself because, he doesn't know how to begin so starts with himself, and then it gradually gets more consistent and relevant to the theme.

And you can see the same thing in "You're Never Over". Starts rapping about himself and just aimlessly following his pen, then it becomes a Proof tribute. But he should of gone back and re-wrote the first verse in my opinion as it ruins the fucking song.

I've now decided that in my eyes, "Difficult" is a much better tribute and he fucked up with "You're Never Over". The second verse, is fantastic and really gets to a brilliant height at one point, apart from the god nonsense... but the first verse... fucking mentioning Just Blaze and, a Pumpkin line etc. - it's just, it ruins it. Followed his pen, but partially ruined the song.

I imagine he just let his pen go. It feels like he just had a super fun time writing it. The rhyme schemes are fairly simple (especially in comparison to what we know he's capable of).

I think he wanted to write something for Proof with a smile on his face, and that's what came out. ;)
