Mixtapes That Sound Like Albums.

Usually mixtapes don't sound like they neccesarily have any sort of direction or theme. Just sound like a bunch of random songs thrown together which isn't a bad thing because it IS a mixtape and not an album which should be cohesive. But, as far as mixtapes sounding like albums go...

My #1 pick and by far, far, far and FAR (...far) would be:

Image

This should be a fucking album, goddamnit. Not only is it one of the best releases in 2010 and one of (if not the best) mixtape of all time. But, it simply sounds like an album. More so than Recovery and a lot of albums out.

On top of all that, in my opinion it's Joey's best release ever. Just better than MM2 & Halfway House for me. Oh and Black Cloud is one of the best songs of all time :smoking:

Your turn.

I've heard Drake's mixtapes often sound like albums.

Not sure what you mean, but I'm going to name Mixtapes that I've enjoyed and are worth being paid for instead of free downloads. Most of the mixtapes I've listened to have consistent sound. I think that "mixtapes are random songs"-statement is simply a myth, esp. when it's an official mixtape. If I were going to choose 20 songs out of something like 40 to put on a mixtape, the ones I pick will sound more a like whether I do it consciously or not. It's bound to happen.

Anyway, B.o.B.'s No Genre & May 25th. They're the only ones I've listened to but they deserve to be albums. Better than his actual album.

J. Cole's The Warm Up and Chamillionaire's Major Pain 1.5. I heard that their other mixtapes are also great but these are the only ones I've heard.

I have no idea what you are listening to, in that case.

Right back at you. Heck, even Chris Brown and Tyga's Fan of a Fan sounded quite consistent.

What's with Copy & wack ass covers? Seriously, he can atleast pull an Odd Future and put abstract Google Images with text on them on his albums so it'll atleast look somewhat average.

Surprised no one mentioned Krit Wuz Here, one of my favorite "albums" from last year. For many different reasons, that i don't feel like getting in depth into right now. I will say that this album is one of the few were I felt real hunger from an artist in awhile. He took generic Southern subject matter and gave his own interesting spin on it. Oh and you could tell he's influenced by UGK.

A-Class - The Motive Response

This is my example for a great mixtape full of hot bars. His flow is amazing and he's not a rapper with a cookie cutter style.

Mac Lethal - North Korean BBQ

This is my example for a tape with an album feel to it. He said he thought this tape was directed toward a more mature audience and it shows. First project by him I liked. Suitcases and Something I can <3 are great and the tape has a solid theme. My favorite mixtape to date.
