That beat sounds a lot better than everything lately.
My biggest gripe with modern production is (and I'm no... expert or obsessive of production / producers, but, in simple terms) the fact it sounds so... messy and clashed.
If you listen to the beats on Recovery for example. It often sounds like there's so much going on at once and it's like this big muffled clash of noise and thumping. It doesn't sound distinctive or memorable to my ears, it just sounds like a pain in the ass.
Where as take like "Forgot About Dre" or some of the classic beats, or beats off The Marshall Mathers LP - they all sound very clean cut and, they're more simple. There's less going on, there's more of a melody and actual structure. They're memorable and actually enjoyable to listen to.
All these modern beats sound like the producers are fucking guessing or something. LIke they're throwing a shitload of sounds in a big mixing pot and seeing what they end up with and then going with it. They never stick in my mind and are rarely enjoyable. All I keep hearing is those tacky fucking drums, I don't know what ones they are but they ruined almost every Recovery song and are prominent on "Roman's Revenge".
Whatever the fuck they are, sound like balloons popping or something. Wish they'd all use live instruments and make the beats less messy.
