Thanks
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.

My Review

1- Welcome 2 Hell: 9/10 . Awesome, haunting production, sick rhythm scheme from Em with awesome lyrics, delivery and flow. Royce was good but easily out shined. Still helped to make this a brilliant album opener.

2- Fast Lane: 8/10. Good production and hook, Royce comes into his own easily beating Em with an intricate rapid flow. Em was smooth and flowed well though.

3- Reunion: 9.5/10. Almost a perfect track. Brilliant production, vintage Eminem verses and nostalgic hook. Royce does a great job too. Really feeling their chemistry at this point.

4- Above The Law: 9/10/. Production continues to excel on the EP. Brilliant hook and amazing, fierce, raw and magnetic verses from Eminem and Royce both. Brilliant cohesive rhythm schemes for both with memorable lyrics.

5- I'm On Erythang: 5/10. Meh. Nothing much to see here. Average production, poor lyrics and a pretty poor performance from Royce shaded by mediocre Em. Classic EP's/Albums cant have songs like this... Oh, importantly, it's not even funny- what it was probably meant to be.

6- A Kiss: 7/10. Fair production and laid back verses from both Em and Royce with good synergy/chemistry. Some really nice lines throughout the song, and it does what it was supposed to (unlike the previous track) which is to lighten up the album a bit without compromising its quality. Good song though all in all, but another one to detract from the EP overall.

7- Lighters: 8/10. Doesn't belong on the EP, but in the interests of fairness I'll rate it as an individual track. Feeling the production, you can hate me now. Great verse from Em, unfortunately easily outshining Royce (happening a bit too much now, not a good thing for an album of this nature). Great hook from Bruno Mars (the kid can sang). Overall, a great single easily better than any Recovery or Relapse single.

8- Take From Me: 6/10. Probably my biggest disappointment on this EP since everyone was saying how good it was. Just wasn't feeling the production, definitely wasn't feeling the concept and Em was rambling a bit without a cohesive, consistent flow in his verse. Very disappointing. The concept didnt register for me either I guess. Imo, Royce was good, the hook was fine and that's enough to salvage the song somewhat. Another dent in this EP's armour though, imo.

9- Loud Noices: 7/10. It's a good song, Slaughterhouse come to the party, especially Crooked with a standout verse. Productions fine. Em is outshone again, album ending weaker than it began.

Overall

7.6/10

Well, that's lower than I expected, looking at the album objectively, but to be fair, I've enjoyed the standout tracks as much as I've enjoyed any Eminem since I became a fan. These are genuine Eminem songs on this EP that will send a shiver down your spine and are probably a pleasure to get blunted to (I've been really tempted believe me). Royce performed admirably on certain tracks but wasn't consistent enough to match Em throughout the EP. My hype for future Eminem projects has increased as I realize he's still got some amazing potential and can knock it out of the park when he wants to. Lets hope he keeps the fillers to a minimum in future releases, retains this standard of production and who knows, he could drop another classic LP. :y:

Sometimes i'm wondering if I listen to the same Eminem music as some people on this forum lmao.

Above the law is dope, and pumping especially from ''never tasted canvas'' until the end.

Welcome to hell, first verse makes me feel like i'm really in hell, due to the creepy piano and Em.

KillahBee wrote:I went in with 0 expectations for this EP, but came away pleasently surprised :y:

Welcome to Hell (DAMN what an opener!) to Above the Law is a perfect stretch, I'm On Everything brings the quality down, but it picks back up with A Kiss (really liking this) Lighters just stands out so much, in the worst possible way, I actually don't mind this song on it's own, but as part of the EP it doesn't fit at all, but fuck it this is the song that's gonna give Royce some mainstream attention so I can see why it's here

After Lighters, I think the rest of the EP is good, nothing great, but solid

The main thing that stands out to me is the beat selection, this EP BANGS! Welcome to Hell (welcome back the Havoc who's sound I feel in love with), Above the Law, (sounds like something RZA or Tru Master would have made during the Wu Tang Forver seesions - monstrous beat) The Reunion (one would for this: SWAG!) A Kiss (refreshing to hear proper bass on an Eminem track again) Loud Noises, (another banger) the majority of this is just thumping, blast as loud as you can type of music

Overall, a really nice release, nothing groundbreaking but who cares, I barely felt the time passing me by when listening to this, and that's WAY more enjoyment than I originally thought I'd get outta the EP when it was announced

Considering this EP was put out to "test the waters", it looks like this is just the calm before the storm, IF Em & Royce decide to do a full LP and expand on the strenghts present here, we could be looking at a truly memorable debut LP from the duo

I agree with all of this. The EP is much better than I expected, and in terms of production you can easily measure this against his best albums. I have always been a fan of what Mr. Porter does behind the boards but even he managed to surprise me. Fucking ridiculous beats.

My only complains would be the inclusion of Lighters and maybe Take From Me. The latter is a laughable concept executed very, very well. The production, chorus, flows, rhymes etc. are all brilliant but are leaks really worthy of a song? Lighters should have been replaced with Living Proof in my opinion.

Definitely not a perfect EP and it lost focus a couple of times but whatever. At one point I expected Royce da 5'9" to completely outshine Eminem on every song and the whole EP to be a bunch of random songs (it is somewhat coherent).

My rating from best to worse :

1-The Reunion (Fucking sick)
2-Above The Law (Awesome beat and verses)
3-A Kiss (Beat sucks, but song itself was good enough to save it)
4-Welcome To Hell (Great song, Eminem's verse was great and Royce as well)
5-Living Proof (Royce was mind-blowing, Eminem was decent)
6-I'm On Everything (Great fun track, highly enjoyable)
7-Fast Lane (Royce and Em are even here, song's fucking sick)
8-Take From Me (Eminem's verse had some of the best yelling he ever done, Royce was decent)
9-Lighters (Royce's verse was average, Eminem was great but nothing special)
10-Echo (Royce slayed Eminem in this song)
11-Loud Noises (Worst Eminem/Royce verses on the EP, features saved it)

All great songs nevertheless. :y:

Loud Noises :
Crooked I > Joell Ortiz (MIND=BLOWN) > Joe Budden > Royce Da 5'9" > Eminem

I ALMOST agree with this, but switch A Kiss with Welcome 2 Hell and I think Echo should definitely switch with Living Proof. Oh, and also switch Lighters with Loud Noises...Lighters is literally my least favorite track, but not the worst track.

9/10, Lighters didn't seem to fit on the EP, still like the track, but i agree with Trigger least favourite track, idk what my favourite track is but i have to say that The Reunion, Welcome 2 Hell and Above the Law were immense! Seriously, i think this guy's talent cannot be matched ever, seeing the way hip hop is going.

I spent the entire day downloading the songs 1 by 1 with my capped internet and then I heard Take From Me and I feel like shit... If I had a job I'll go out and by all the CD's x2

Most of the songs on this blew me away so great, I still think lighters is a faggot song though thanks to Bruno Mars.

10/10 album though. Much better than recovery and relapse, shit had me laughing (The Reunion), Sad ( Take From Me), eargasmic melody (The Reunion), delivery(in general), flow (in general), the beats are awesome.

My favourite top to bottom would probably be...

1. Above the Law
2. Welcome 2 Hell
3. Fastlane
4. Living Proof
5. Take from Me
6. Loud Noises
7. The Reunion
8. Echo
9. I'm On Everything
10. A Kiss
11. Lighters

I don't get why everybody loves "The Reunion" so much. Just because of his tone / flow being more reminiscent of MMLP days. Because, it's much less structured than back then and it just sounds like he's talking. I'd much rather him flow like "Fastlane" now, much more entertaining.

And, "Lighters" would be my least favourite due to how out of place it is on the EP. I think all the other tracks fit fine and without this track it would been top-to-bottom good tracks, which all mesh. Which is, the aim. And, I think it has an overall sound and doesn't sound patchy like Recovery.

"The Reunion" is just pretty meh to me. It has a class hook by Em but it's very aimless. Which, a lot of their rhyming is but at least it's usually entertaining. And I usually love his OTT misogyny for its sake but, only when it's witty and funny. Which, here it wasn't for me. It was just flatly descriptive and pointless. Done to much better effect on say "Same Song & Dance".

That was my first listen right through though so some tracks may grow on me.

A 're-appearance'... 'dark'... 'gloomy'... ? where have you been. How is Relapse not that, how are songs like "Cold Wind Blows" and "Almost Famous" not that?

It's the style you love, the voice.

People are just obsessed with his old voice. They call Relapse trash because they can't get past the voice(s) when the writing and content is insane and far superior to something like "The Reunion". Which he could write in his sleep. So, you've been waiting for that style.
