Spotify

I didn't know where to make this thread but here goes...

Spotify is coming to my country in a few months, and I'm curious about this piece of software because I don't think there is any doubt that streaming is the future. But I'm not interested if I'm only able to listen to all the big artists so to speak since I enjoy a lot of underground music (not only hip hop).

Does any of you already have Spotify, and if so, can you listen to Madlib, Pharoahe Monch and such lesser known artists?

Thanks. I'm thinking about getting rid of my cd collection if the sound quality is cool, and just connect my stereo to my computer. I'm quite old fashioned so it's gonna be hard ha ha.

I'm not really a computer expert but I faked my ip-address somehow and got a free Spotify account to check it out. I'm really impressed how much music there is available there; even MC Lyte's debut album from the late 80's and danish underground albums are there even though Spotify is technically not available here yet! :y: And yes, an album is very, very underground when it is not only danish but also not famous here ha ha.

I just don't understand why so many albums are uploaded several times - some of them only containing half of the album's tracks, hmm. I guess it will get a lot more user friendly when it gets more widely known.

My small apartment really screams for this application to get released here.. I have cds and vinyls everywhere.

No point in this post really... Just wanted people to know that I've had a very productive day.

I guess 30 vinyls and.... yeah, I've lost count of the amount of cds. I buy 2-4 albums a month, just whatever I like. Mostly older albums though, they are usually much cheaper than new ones.

They are all like my babies so it's hard to see them grown old and move away from papa.

If space is an issue, ask a friend or family member to keep your CDs & vinyls at their place until you get a bigger apartment. It would SUCK if you'd just get rid of them.

After all, they're your babies. :p

You do know about grooveshark.com, right? It has every song I've ever wanted to listen to.

I know about that site but I don't mind paying for music and supporting artists' work. I would go apeshit if people just stole something that I've worked really hard on... Yeah, I download music too but I always buy it afterwards if I liked it.

I love how everyone started calling Spotify greedy when they put a limit on the free version.

Oh I totally agree. There's also something about owning the physical copy of someone's art that I can't quite explain. But if you're on the go/at work, or in your case, need space, you can use grooveshark to stream music for free before buying it. Spotify isn't available where I am either, or I would probably use it in addition to grooveshark though.

I agree 100 %. I guess it depends on what you grew up with. I'm from the cd-generation so it is definitely gonna be hard to get rid of the collection. Your collection also defines you as a person when you invite friends over, if you know what I mean.

I have bought albums from Itunes a few times but it feels like buying air. I don't really feel I get anything for my money and I therefore rather pay a little extra to get the cd. The feeling of looking through the booklet and having the music in your hand is really underrated!

But I'm looking forward to having a whole world of music on my phone and computer, and I hope streaming means that we'll get to hear even more quality albums in the future when the artists get the money they deserve.

Me and my friends always use Grooveshark at parties though. Mainly because everyone can get to hear what they want.
