i agree with comments about how they shoulda stopped at 1 or 2, unfortunately most people will now remember the series for the gore and the traps later on. its a shame because the first one was incredible.

saw + saw 2 were awesome :worship:

3 + 4 was kinda.. :facepalm

5 + 6 was kinda interesting with the new jigsaw thing. Nothing amazing but wasn't awful either.

saw 3D was alright but most importantly it ended the way it should - bringing it full circle, with a respectable finish. :y:

they've said they're done with it cos of the decrease in the box office performance. But just like what has happened in the past with friday 13th, halloween or nightmare on elm - another movie is likely to be grinded out because it is a huge franchise.

honestly i would love to see another saw film AS LONG AS it is the quality of the original 2. :flutter:
But i doubt that it will happen.

Saw 3D had the worst possible ending for the series, from a fan perspective. I don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen it, but trust. Not only did they give Jigsaw about a minute's total screentime the whole film (with his only scene being garbage anyway), but they completely changed everything about an important previously established character and made him do shit and act in a way that he would never have originally done.

You do realise that even the writers aren't satisfied with this film right? They've been asked about it, they had it written to be two movies, seven and eight. Instead, they were forced to shove both films worth of material into one film because Lionsgate would only give them one more film because Saw 6 sucked balls and not enough people went to see it. Funny thing is, Saw 6 was better than 4 and 5, but lack of faith meant that Saw 6 had some of the lowest ratings based on its previous installments. This is the problem at the heart of Saw, it has become driven entirely by money. If Saw 3D had sold as well as say, Saw II or III, you'd already be hearing about development for Saw 8. That's not an assumption by me either, they have said so.

Some of the long-running actors are so stupid that they even WANT to make a Saw 8. Costas Mandylor, the dickhead who plays easily the worst character who imo ruined the Saw series has said so. They don't care. This isn't about telling a good story, this is about getting more money.

I do not see them making an eigth Saw, for many reasons. First of all, Saw 3D had equally shitty ratings. The only way Lionsgate would give them funding to make another is if it sold really well, which it didn't because we all know how shit the films have become. Secondly, since the writers were forced to squash two films' worth of material into one film, there is really nothing to even make an eighth film about, without it being purely an excuse to show more gore and get money. Saw 3D answered pretty much the big question of the entire series, albeit in a sloppy and stupid way. There's nothing left to do. It's a dead horse. Of course in my opinion Saw III already wrapped everything up beautifully; you don't have to answer every question in the canon to end a series, some things work better as a mystery. Every new character added in post-Saw III has, to me, been artificial, added only to make the "story" drag along, like some kind of duck-taped blood-covered monstrosity. It's hard to describe what I mean without spoiling everything, but i'm sure anyone who's watched them knows what I mean.

couldn't be bothered to read the whole thing, but most of what you've said i agree with..
especially the post saw III comments..

anyways no movie franchise has gone 7/8 movies without a bunch of gabarge flicks. so lets not go mad thinking otherwise. with that said.. the saw series has given me two fantastic films (1+2)

so either way it doesn't matter to me, if another film comes along i know it wont be a classic, but hell yeah i'll watch it, i'm a saw fan for better or for worse. :coffee:

I'm pretty sure it won't end there, as long as they get money out of this they'll continue milking it. They'll probably make a spin off or something in the future.

I hope not. I like those movies, for the most part. It's not really torture porn like people think (nothing against torture porn; I enjoy torture porn), they're more like thriller/detective noires. They're not directed all that well, though. I think they should be more dystopian. Maybe pt anderson should direct the next one...

There is no way to salvage this series, from IV onwards it has been butchered and stitched together by an inexperienced set of surgeons to the point that there is no going back. If they make another it will only deserve any attention for being a piece of unintentional abstract modern art.
