Lighters is terrible

When most people were dreading Lighters before the ep was released I was looking forward to it. Why? Because Bruno Mars is one of my favourite singers today. His mixtapes and his debut album had many incredible songs (ignore Just The Way You Are). I am saying this just to point out that I don't dislike the song because he is on it although my biggest reason for not liking the song is the hook.

First of all I want to say that Bruno Mars wasted his time on this song. The lyrics to the hook are cringeworthy and pathetic. No matter how well he sang it it was gunna sound cheesy and generic. But the way he sang it made it even worse. He sounded whiney and just annoying in gerneral.

Then the beat kicks in and although it is not awful it sounds like every other pop beat in the industry. It is terribly suited for these two

Eminem's verse unlike Royce's is not bad but it sounds awkward flow wise for most of the verse.

Royce's verse is just really sad. His verse is pretty much the definition of awkward. He sounds like hes babbling for a lot of it.

So this is pretty much why I think the songs bad. NOT because it doesn't fit well into the ep (which it doesn't). It is bad all by itself.

Lighters isn't terrible. Like I said 1-2 weeks ago it might not be a perfect song, but it's still more than just decent. Don't get the hate for the hook, Bruno Mars did his job, his voice doesn't sound strange to me. The beat? Maybe it is a simple beat, I still love how the rhythm changes at some point ("There is or there ever will be"). The lyrics? If you support Em like me you have to adore this two parts:

It serves its purpose, I heard that song on the radio this morning on the way to work and 2wice on the way home, just like with LTWYL........ Cant say I'm a big fan but the point of a single is too get the album noticed with radio play

But it doesnt bother me because I'm use to it, Eminems Big hit singles have always annoyed me, I dont dislike his Desperate Pop songs like "Lighters" anymore then I did his Desperate Anti-Pop songs like "Without Me".............. The Good Eminem songs are always the ones on the record, not the radio

But seriously I was kind of disappointed with this song too. Em's verse started and it immediately on the edge of my seat like something EPIC was going to happen in his verse, the second chorus and so forth..

But it never happened

HOWEVER. I do like that "Guess it doesn't fuckin matter now DOES IT?" line. And then the rest of the song let me down haha..

But whatever. Overall, I am happy with the cd
