It's a beautifully smooth transisition from verse to chorus and links perfectly his feelings as someone living in poverty to his feelings since he blew up. It also produces a great bit of imagery (for me anyway).
I also love this line from My Name Is:
"Well since age twelve, I've felt like I'm someone else/Cause I hung my original self from the top bunk with a belt"
Really clever introduction of the slim shady character. It's also hilarious. Whole song is underappreciated, in fact.
Yeah I dont really understand why people dont like "My Name Is." Every verse has classic shady quotables throughout like..
C'mere slut! (Shady, wait a minute, that's my girl dog!)
I don't give a fuck, God sent me to piss the world off!
Ninety-nine percent of my life I was lied to
I just found out my mom does more dope than I do (Damn!)
I told her I'd grow up to be a famous rapper
Make a record about doing drugs and name it after her (Oh thank you!)
Am I coming or going? I can barely decide
I just drank a fifth of vodka -- dare me to drive? (Go ahead)
People get caught up in the catchy chorus and beat and think its obnoxious, but the lyrics make it easy for me to get into.
