Jimmy Iovine "buying" a part of a song for Eminem is an absolutely ridiculous idea. I know it seems to happen a lot these days with hooks being bought and offered eg. Airplanes, Love The Way You Lie etc. Whatever happened to the good old dayswhen the artist was responsible for the whole of the song?

I'd understand if the producer or Dr. Dre/whoever is in the studio with Eminem and they think up a chorus, but buying one from an artist thousands miles away and getting Eminem to put a few verses on it just ruins any artistic merit of the song for me. Eminem will now have to make up some shitty lyrics that relate to the chorus of the song because all the 14 year old girls will be able to sing along and add it to their playlist alongside Justin Bieber.

Completely agreed, it really takes away from the song I mean seriously the chorus should relate to the lyrics, not the other way around. And it's OK if you write a chorus first then write the lyrics either way you have a tone for the song but when you just go around buying songs it seems like Eminem is just making songs about whatever chorus' Jimmy buys now adays you know what I mean? I think Eminem should write his verses first before he finds a chorus or atleast have a solid idea what the song is about first.

Theres nothing wrong to sample a hook, but the fuss is about Eminem writing a generic song around the sampled hook

I enjoyed all the sampled tracks of the last year, but he shouldn't exaggerate. An Em song with him on the hook has probably the better feeling. Like his top tracks Lose Yourself, The Way I Am or Not Afraid. All the merits go to him in those cases.
