Question for Brits

Postby Fa-Q » Jul 21st, '11, 14:15

I've started watching BCC's "The Office" and I have to watch it with Subtitles because Ricky Gervais' accent is SO THICK. So my question is, is it hard you Brits to understand us Americans? Maybe a deep southern accent or what about people that mumble....we got a lot of mumblers over here hahah

It's BBC ;)

All American accents are easy to understand for me. Even Southern ones, and the mumblers like James Toney.

There are so many different accents over here though. You can go five to ten miles up a road and sound completely different to the people there.

BBC...hahah I knew that...can you guys all understand each other? Is there Ebonics like there is over here...like it seems like every black person over here says "Forf" instead of "Fourth"

I found it hard to understand Yelawolf at first...but apart from that, it's easy.

American accents are pretty easy to understand. Don't know of the different accents they have there but from what i've heard it sounds clear enough.

I have alot more trouble understanding some of our accents. The toughest i find to understand are some Welsh, Yorkshire, Geordies and maybe Norfolk dialect.

You brits haven't heard every American accent (besides those of you have traveled the states)

Rappers & actors aren't a proper judge of American accents.....hell I can't understand some accents over here lol

I do much better with British accents so far, since I been exposed to it more the last few years. But in no way can I understand it "well" it depends on their speed of talking, and even then I miss a few words that are buried in the accents

And don't get me started on Scots, I can't even read what they type let along say :sweating:

Not at all. Even strong southern accents aren't really a problem to understand.

I think this thread pretty much sums it up. The UK is more intelligent. If cavemen can understand eachother without words... then Americans are dumber than cavemen. Spoiled bitches. :shifty:

I have another question. Do Brits impersonate Americans and our accents like we do with Brits :D
