DreamWorks Decides Against Eminem movie Southpaw

I personally think he should do a Hangover type comedy not another drama.

Pugilist or pugilist-related movies are kind of having a moment right now. “The Fighter” fought its way to a strong box office haul and awards season recognition, and advance word on the MMA drama “Warrior” with Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton is very good. Down the line, MMA fighter Gina Carano toplines Steven Soderbergh‘s “Haywire” that will definitely cater to an audience that doesn’t get served very often, which makes it all the more odd that DreamWorks has decided “Southpaw” isn’t for them.

Deadline reports that the project, first announced last year, is still full packaged with director Antoine Fuqua and star Eminem with a script by “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter, which should still make it tantalizing pick up, but no official word on why studio honchos are no longer interested. But there are more than a few reasons.

Firstly, Fuqua is attached to a ridiculous list of projects—the cops and robbers pic “Storming Las Vegas,” a sci-fi flick with Gerard Butler titled “Afterburn,” a Chinese-language historical drama and “The Tomb” which Arnold Schwarzenegger was looking at earlier this year, not to mention the “Tupac” biopic—so maybe the studio didn’t feel like sitting around waiting to see when he could fit this in. It could also be that DreamWorks realizes no one really cares to see an “8 Mile” redux, with the rags-to-riches boxing story said to contain elements of Marshall Mathers’ life in the screenplay. But most likely, the studio already has a boxing movie coming out this fall—“Real Steel.” And with a sequel already in the works, they probably don’t see the need to get another fighter movie off the ground.

So it looks like the big screen comeback of Marshall Mathers will have to wait, and at least one Fuqua project is off the table. For now.

Would loosen him up a bit. He looked most natural laughing with Sasha Grey than fighting in Entourage.

Its a shame this ddnt happen but maybe opens doors for more cutting-edge roles... hopefully

On one hand, boo Dream Works, because I was really looking forward to eventually seeing this. But on the other hand, maybe now Em will find a good movie that isn't tailor-written for him and semiautobiographical. I really want to see if Em can pull off playing a role that's completely different from himself as well as he can go back a few years and play a younger version of himself.

But I definitely don't want Em to get on a comedy, especially not one like The Hangover. I hated the Hangover.

lol how about they drop a few of those other shitty-sounding movies. We need another Tupac bio? Who wants to see a sci-fi with Gerard Butler or a Chinese Historical movie??? Do they realize that Eminem's name alone would make this movie one of the biggest in the past ten years? They don't have a grasp on name power.

That would be exactly the type of thing that I would go for, if Em were to be in a comedic role. I adore that video. he's rapping his threats at times.

I supposed that something was wrong with that movie, but I don't care. Maybe I'm the only one but I have no special interest in see Eminem in a movie again .
8 mile was good. But let's be honest most of the music starts that make films sucks. I prefer him to be focused in his music.
