About Eminem's Recovery

Postby Sergio M. » Aug 14th, '11, 21:40

I know that it's an old topic, but a lot of people here in brazil says that Recovery is boring, that Recovery is pop, that they don't want another album like that.

But my opinion is the oposite. I love Recovery, I think it's amazing, the third best Eminem's album.

So, I want to know, what's your opinion about Recovery?

IMO, eminem's recovery is up there with the Eminem Show but not as good as the MMLP

I think recovery has some good tracks, personally my favorites are Cold Wind Blows, On Fire, Going Through Changes, So Bad, and Untitled. Overall I thought it was kinda lame though. It's too emotional, too many punchlines, and I don't care for his delivery. I think he was trying to please people who didn't like relapse, and make it a more mainstream (working with wider range of artist/producers). I think relapse is better overall, and seems like he did more what he wanted on relapse rather than what his record company wanted. Although it was more "emotional" than his previous albums I thought it lacked content, and did not show off his storytelling ability we had seen on his previous albums.

It seems like he used to craft his rhymes/flow around the beat. Recovery just seems like he took something out of his rhyme book at random to put over a beat. It just doesn't seem to mesh as well imo.

Plus, he started explaining his punchlines. I like the "my metaphors are so complicated it'll take 6 minutes to get applause" type punchlines where either you got it or you didn't. Usually the former.

Lyrically it's dope, content is meh at points (too generic and could be spit by any rapper), and you can't even bob your head to most of the beats.

It's good I just expected better.

agreed. recovery doesn't have that signature eminem sound. the first time I noticed this was on Forever, but I figured it was a feature for drake so I didn't worry. but when recovery came out with these bland generic beats, I couldn't get into it at all. even with a shitty album like encore, it still feels like an eminem album.

I agree with this post 100%, including the part about Encore. I'm okay with changing up the rap styles (although the constant shouting needs to stop) but I miss that "sound" you're talking about.

Honestly? I feel sorry for all of them who aren't able to fully enjoy an amazing album like Recovery. I'm happy not to be in that position. How sad is it being a small part of supporters not liking the work of your favourite artist?

Actually, on this forum at least, you are in the minority. Recovery was good but by no means great. Way too much content that simply felt like someone was trying to please the masses. I enjoyed it, but if not for his first 3 albums and 8MST I wouldn't be a Stan.

It is up there with TES for its tracklist (the whole thing is solid).

It has many great tracks...but what gets me is the uniqueness of the album. Only songs that stood out where Almost Famous and untitled.

Almost famous was great story telling, passion, rhymes/metas/wordplay/storytelling etc.

Untitled was like old em.

The album was solid and i love it but it wasnt as unique as the old em, specifically his best, TES :coffee:

For me, Recovery isn't good, much less great. Recovery is DOPE, AMAZING!

I cant' understand how people don't love this album.
