Why all the hate on Love the way you lie?

Postby Jdubem » Aug 15th, '11, 01:38

Kinda been wondering this for awhile now, but I really dont get why people talk about this song like its terrible on here. I agree it isnt at all some of his rawest shit or anything even though it has been his best song commercially since his comeback. Its not bad though and is better than most songs on recovery. I dont have any problem with the concept and no problem with him collaborating with Rihanna to do it. Thats way realer than the song with Bruno Mars. I mean it was obviously aimed at being a hit, but thats pretty much what you should expect from singles. I sure didnt expect him to come out with another we made you or relapse like single after those didnt really go over so well.

It's funnier how people talk about this song like it's absolute shit but they all love 'Space Bound'.

yeah I just dont think he has the confidence to do great hooks now. It used to be a strong point, but now post comeback he seems to have lost it.

I think people dislike it mostly because Rihanna's on it and she's too pop. If it was the exact same song with say Mary J Blige on it there's probably be no complaints.

:confusion: Deja Vu, My Mom, The Reunion, 3 am, Insane, Bagpipes From Baghdad, Hello, Same Song & Dance, Stay Wide Awake, Seduction, Not Afraid, So Bad...

Oh, and to stay on topic, I've always thought LTWYL was amazing. People just hate on it because they don't like Rihanna.

I don't hate it, I just hate the people that love it.

Most tracks which get huge from him or anybody get eventually hated by people who critically think about music or like artists for their album material more than their singles anyway. Because once those huge songs appeal to people who don't even get Eminem, or X artist properly and just listen to the hits, liking the track becomes like guilt by association.

Personally, I don't want to be thought of in the same category or associated with some of the people that like his music or like him for the wrong reasons. Which is why when a song like this gets huge it urges me internally to dislike it, as all I think about is certain retards.

This song in particular is also obviously hated by default by many who just don't like Rihanna. But I don't dislike it for this reason as putting her on this chorus was a pretty ingenious thing to do. It'd be like putting Elton John on a track about homophobia or, as Em already did, performing with him at the Grammys in front of GLAAD protesters.

It's a paradox and adds a new layer to the art. Makes it better.

And in particular with this track as the lyrics and execution of the concept / story are so vivid and emotional, and the situation with Rihanna so huge and known publicly that it just adds a very... interesting undertone to the track, always.

This is a rare example where Rihanna was literally the best possible choice for this hook. If it was Skylar Grey, or anybody else, it wouldn't matter. Then it'd just be a random female on the hook and wouldn't have the same angle or depth to it. So regardless of however much you hate Rihanna or her big forehead, this time, she was the absolutely correct and perfect choice.

It was a really nice idea and obviously Em knew it would make the track huge from her name alone. But given the subject-matter, he clearly chose her primarily for the reasons I mentioned above and it's a by-chance marriage of controversy and aristry, and mainstream appeal. Without compromising anything... so, that's a real plus and gives me hope that the innovative, cynical artist behind The Marshall Mathers LP may still be alive yet.

Also, one more reason is just that generally speaking - when a lot of people like something, whatever it is, and rave about it or it's popular by default, I want to hate it. Loving something that many like inherently makes you feel a bit sheepish and anybody who values being an individual, would innately feel apposed to this. And I know I'm not alone in feeling like that. As I don't have special DNA, and am a part of a species, so this must be fairly common too.

People love to hate things that are popular.

It's a good song. Nothing mindblowing, but it's solid and has real emotion behind it.

Jealousy and not liking to share.

When something blows up that you knew about before the majority of other people did, you feel a bigger sense of attachment to it than you think others are entitled to and it turns into disliking whatever said "thing" is.

"We're Eminem fans so this belongs to us more so than a snotty nosed pre-pubescent 14 year old who listens to it and posts quotes from it on Facebook/Twitter when she cries and thinks she can relate to it because she dated a guy for 3 weeks who turned around and finger banged a hotter chick at school."

I can't be too far off with that thinking.

I completely agree with everything you said. I was about to post something similar until I read your post. I feel the same way. Whenever a song becomes hugely popular, I want to hate it.

Hes had some good hooks, but none of those compare to the ones he did in his prime. Why do you think hes gone more and more to other people doing them?
