Doubt about Beats by Dre Studio Headphones

EDIT: I think I get what you're saying now. You mean why can't they work in passive mode? Like, why can't you listen to them without the batteries if you choose? I would guess that it's because they have the circuitry routed in such a way that without a live battery, the circuit is broken.
