Best Album Opener

The first song to open the album kind of sets the mood for the rest of the albums. How would you rank Ems openers?

I think he's gotten the opener perfect for every album.

That's the one thing he never fails on.

As for how I'd rank them?... that's tough. I think it'd be between "Kill You" and "White America" for best. I fucking love "Cold Wind Blows" too though.

I probably enjoy "Cold Wind Blows" a little more recently, simply because it's new. And I've played the hell out of everything else. I've overplayed that too, but not for years and years. So, if I had to really seriously and fairly step back... I think I'd have to give it to "White America".

"Kill You" is a masterpiece but given the subject-matter of "White America" and the higher-level-flow, where his voice just... IS the beat, he sounds like a monster of rap, it's amazing.

White America is just the perfect opener for TES.

imo White America. Just set the theme for the whole album and came out hard as hell

It would be really hard to pick the best. I'd say maybe 'Kill You' as it gets RIGHT into the violent, outrageous style that is MMLP, but 'White America' does that just as well, I think I just like 'Kill You' more as a song. 'Cold Wind Blows' is a great opener, and I love the song, but it's misleading. '3AM' was a good choice for Relapse opener, probably the best choice out of all of the songs. 'My Name Is' was probably fitting at the time...many songs on SSLP could be used as an opener, though.

Evil Deeds fucking sucks.

I am pretty much in love with 'Welcome 2 Hell', though. He sounds menacing and vicious, the punchlines are far from corny and Royce keeps up with him. The fast flow actually works with this beat, and I always love the songs where he raps for most of the song. The lack of chorus was actually a great choice. The back and forth at the end is perfectly executed. I even think Em's voice on this sounds slightly different than the rest of H:TS, and it's suitable for the song.
