Right now, Eminem is pretty much in the same situation he was in back in 2002/03 after the Eminem Show dropped.
He has delivered an extremely popular album (TES and Recovery) and is (back) on top of the game. He has depicted every aspect of his personal struggle; back then it was his fight with all the controversy and dealing with the fame, last year it was him overcoming his drug addiction.
So as of right now, there's not really much, if anything, to share from his personal life. He is more or less happy and free from worry.
Let's recall what he did back in 2002 - fall back for two years and then drop Encore.
Most of you will disagree, but I feel that right now, Eminem is on a trajectory towards another lowpoint and H:TS was the worst CD he put out since his comeback.
So now this is what I think he needs to do now in order for him to drop another fantastic album (apart from improving his flow and delivery):
He needs to expand his goddamn subject matter.
Filling verses with misogyny and punchlines will work for a random Bad Meets Evil EP - but not for an entire Eminem studio album.
And there should be no boundaries whatsoever for him to change up his music, he is Eminem, he can do anything he wants with his music.
Listen to songs such as "Lost Ones", "Cheer Up" and "Lights Please" by J. Cole for example. He creates stories about (mostly fictional) characters struggling with everyday life.
We all know Eminem COULD do that, but he has never been able to create songs without putting himself in them, he has never been able to make songs that are completely unrelated to him.
I feel that he has now reached a certain level of maturity, as a man and as an artist, and that it is now possible for him to expand his subject matter in every direction. I have no doubt in my mind that he does have deep thoughts about literally everything that's going on in the world. He can take his music to places rap has never been before, there's nothing that he CAN'T do, but instead, he sticks to the same old shit about hating hoes and corny punches.
