I watched an interview of Obama on Youtube from back in 2008 I think, where he was talking about hip hop, and he said he's a fan of Kanye (he also said he's a fan of Jay-Z, so I bet he got Watch the Throne!), so I think him calling Kanye a jackass was probably more of a spur of the moment type thing.
