Well, I don't agree that he seemed desperate on Recovery. I mean, I can understand if you mean with his production but none of his content was sacrificed by any means. His artistic integrity remains intact after Recovery, despite the excessive hate on this forum, the general music fans like it cuz it feels like an Eminem album - WHICH also bugs me a little bit, that's what Recovery seems like...just a "regular Eminem album" with the typical jokes, aggression, emotion and fucking around.

The production of Relapse was leagues ahead of Recovery, no doubt, Dre's the best to do it. But like I said before, shit beat or not, his lyrics and content were on point. You gotta admit, when Relapse came out, we were expecting emotion or SOMETHING recollective of his previous 5 year hiatus (Which he DID touch upon beautifully in Deja Vu and Beautiful) but for the most part, he was emotionless on Relapse - in the zone of a serial killing, pill popping addict in all fairness though.

Eminem is such an Artist who has remained faithful to Rap and Fans that have held his back all this years and will continue to do so till he is dropping music. He is not that type of a guy who will compromise on the Lyrical front at least. So I'm not saying that he sounded desperate lyrically (Content wise),he once said in a Interview with Dre that "I will never compromise my style for nobody" and I'm glad that he stood by that statement till date.Eminem always did his thing when it came to making music, but seeing the changing taste in music of the fans he also changed(I think).

Relapse saw him doing that same insane shit that he is known for,he worked really hard for that, you can feel it when you listen to Relapse now.But some how the reception that it got when it came out was not up to the par.I think he felt less appreciated for the hard work that he has put in and that was one of the reasons that he changed directions,I guess.

You're right, when it was about to come out we expected some thing that would reflect what he went through in the past 5 years ,but that's not what we got. That's actually how he operates I guess full of surprises. But I remember him mentioning that Relapse 2 would be emotional ,maybe it would have had those songs that we are talking about.Sadly we wont have them now.

With Recovery everything that he did was for it to get a more a mass appeal like Radio Plays and shit. That's a little desperation for me ,really just because of the techno type beats that are making waves in Rap now-a-days he branched out to so many different producers to match the current state of mainstream music scene.

I sure fuckin hope so man :worship: The fact that he's with Slaughterhouse and Yela more often also helps, we saw good direction with the production on H:TS and it can only hopefully get better.

D12 will also help, they've always had dope beats they rap on.

Dre,Premo,Mr.Porter,Bass Brothers & some underground Prod on an Album would be Epic.

His most recent album, Recovery, was the best-selling album of 2010 and arguably the strongest work of his career.

Please dont turn this into another discussion about Recovery and Em's discography...the interview was boring because I have personally heard the same story over and over again-but I guess it the Survivors. But I'm just PISSED that LIL WAYNE is among those great and a double slap he is on the COVER. I can't find ONE wayne song that i like...im so serious...i cant even appreciate him as a artist

I like the No Love song
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I think you're confusing "best work" and "strongest work". The journalist used that wording for a reason. If he meant best, he would've said best. I think what he saw trying to say is that Recovery is his strongest album in terms of his mental state, in terms of Em being strong enough to overcome his 90 pill-a-day addiction [holy shit, by the way. I know we've all heard the numbers before, but it still blows me away that he's alive] and Em just generally being triumphant. It might not be what you think about Recovery, but I'd bet money that's what the journalist was thinking of when he wrote that.

Anyway,

Talk about a sick birthday present! This made my day. And not only do we get a print interview, we get a video photoshoot and apparently a video version of the interview later? AWESOME.

He came out that time and lost himself in the music again, the same way he had when he was 12, after years of bouncing from school to school. "I'm just this shy kid," he remembers, slipping into the glowering, rapid-fire intensity of his best rhymes. "And I get thrown into a classroom with more people I don't know, and I'm going into my shell and I'm worried about how my shoes are bummy as fuck and I'm wearing Salvation Army clothes, and these kids are behind me and they're making comments and whispering, and I don't really know that they're talking about my clothes but I feel like they are, and they're talking about my haircut. I don't even know how to speak up for myself, because I don't really have a father who would give me the confidence or advice. And if you're always the new kid, you never get a chance to adapt, so your confidence is just zilch. You're thrown out there to the fucking wolves. Hence when N.W.A starts saying Fuck you to the police and to everybody—'Fuck you who doubted me'—holy shit, I want to say that."

This part is new. :y: I love how he can put himself back in high school mentally like this.

I like that song aswell. It's funny you mention it actually, since a friend of someone I know died a couple of months back, and he had that song dedicated to him. :( I didn't even know him, but that's what the song makes me think of now. It's a good song though.

I think what he saw trying to say is that Recovery is his strongest album in terms of his mental state, in terms of Em being strong enough to overcome his 90 pill-a-day addiction [holy shit, by the way. It might not be what you think about Recovery, but I'd bet money that's what the journalist was thinking of when he wrote that.

Even then he is wrong to an extent ,Eminem was over a year sober when he did Relapse.Talking about mental state ,thinking from a Serial Killers point of view is not easy as we make it out.Relapse had moments that showed his strength as a writer, the deep multis and dope content can't be ignored.Relapse was done when he was close to recovering from his pill addiction and loss of Proof. He was strong enough that is why he was able to overcome the odds and make a comeback like that.Tell me if he wasn't at his strongest end ,could he come out of the whole drama that surrounded him at that time.

Recovery on the other end was Eminem acting all confident again with what he was doing.
