Let me preface by saying that I don't come here often, so if there's another thread on this topic, my bad. I gave the board a quick cursory look and didn't see one.
That said, the topic is simple really. To this day, I've always wondered what Encore would of sounded like had Straight from the Lab not leaked. Obviously, the additional year that Em took to make the album immensely impacted (diminished) the sound and quality of the album. However, all of the songs that were originally intended for the album, but leaked, were of top quality in my opinion. Then, 7 years later, GOAT and The Apple leak -- both of which were ostensibly made around the time Encore was released (not sure if anyone knows for sure, but based on the production, Em's style of delivery and flow, lyrics, content, etc., it sure sounds like these songs were made around 2003 along with Like Toy Soldiers and Yellow Brick Road).
Knowing this now in retrospect, I wonder what different approaches Em would have taken. What songs would he have included and/or exiled to the vault? Would he broach different subject matter? How would he restructure the album to create what I believe could have been another masterpiece with the available material?
To that end, I decided to re-create Encore. It would no doubt need some production tweaks to make it flow more seamlessly, but in terms of content, quality, track ebb and flow, etc., I think it would have come extremely close to matching the perfection of the MMLP and TES.
Here's my tracklist:
1. Curtains Up
2. Evil Deeds
3. Yellow Brick Road
4. Like Toy Soldiers
5. Mosh
6. I love You More
7. Puke
8. The Apple
9. No Apologies
10. We As Americans
11. Mockingbird
12. Spend Some Time
13. Bully
14. Crazy In Love
15. GOAT
16. It's Been Real (pseudo outro)
17. Encore/Curtains Down
18. Final Thought
Had this album come out as Encore, I think I would have thought it was phenomenal. The only additional changes I might make in mixing the final cut of the album -- aside from the obvious transitional shit -- is rewriting his final verse on No Apologies (never been much of a fan of the final verse for the simple opinion that I think it pales in comparison to the first two verses) and his verses for Encore, which are subpar imo. I might also remove Puke since I Love You More and Crazy In Love are both superior Kim songs.
Anyways, what do you guys think? What songs would you include/exclude? How would you structure your dream Encore playlist?
