Could the line have been better?

Postby melbournian » Oct 18th, '11, 13:06

Not sure if anyone else has thought about it but I was listening to A Kiss n thought shit it would've been better if he worded "Gaga she can quit her job at the post office she's still a male/mail lady" differently. I mean, she doesn't work in a post office for starters - just a simple word change and it can make more sense, example:

and Gaga don't need a job at the post office to be a male/mail lady (just an example before you all go on about what a shit change it is)

I'm not a rapper so I'm not saying that lyrically my change is better, but it does make a little more sense and it was an interesting thought. If anyone has thought the same thing post your replacement lines...

Yea it would be better with your line instead. This is one of the reasons why Em's punchline game is often shit - because he will just make up nonsensical predicaments in order to pull the punchline off. He does it in this and in the "two peas and a tripod" one too, for example.

You're on point but you're missing the general idea. Eminem's line mean Gaga IS a male/mail lady & yours mean Gaga might be a male/mail lady. Technically yours make more sense but Eminem's pun suppose to mean Gaga HAS a job at the post office, because she IS a male/mail lady. Basicly Eminem wanna call her a post office worker above all to make it more copmlex rather than just imply she's a male/mail lady.
It is not beef & there's no any kind of bad feelings towards Gaga, this is just a jab so EM wants to make the most of it with this line IMO.

I can't say I agree. IMO his line is not saying anything more than she could quit and would still be a male lady... The result being effectively the same point as the one conveyed in the example I provided, which leaves no logical conclusions other than she has a dick.

To say that he's saying she is a post office worker to take further jabs is a bit of a long shot and I don't think it was ems intention, especially considering its a big call as she is a reputable artist and there is really no connection between post office working and having a dick. I do see your point though and i guess it could be argued either way.

Honestly, I just thought it was an interesting idea. It wasn't my intention to argue as to which line was better (even though I expected it may get to that). I'm sure ppl have heard his lines before and thought of a replacement which might be an improvement on or a viable substitute for the existing lyrics. Just wondering if there were any others really.

Damn, he recycled the male/mail wordplay again. It wasn't great when he first used it, and it's not great on this song either. Kinda sad...

Oh and I agree with the OP. Calling Gaga a post office worker is a lame shot. It doesn't have any basis tbh.

If you are talking about "Criminal" and you say that Versace line was bad than you are wrong. And full of shit.

Maybe you cracked up laughing at the "genius" of it when you first heard it, but if you're still impressed by it, then you're full of shit. It's not a great line and compared to his humor at the time, I think it's sub-par.

It's intentionally immature, though. Em knows it's a stupid pun, and pretty tasteless, hence the explanation of it immediately after. It's just a funny attempt to piss people off.
