What is the purpose of this skit? i never understood why it was on there nor the humor behind it : / lol

It was a spoof of the old soap opera "as the world turns". It's just a joke Em had Royce play before his track of the same name played

I think it shows how raw that album really was. It wasn't influenced strongly by any bad-press against Eminem, it wasn't revolting anything that oridinary people were aware of. It was a pure channel for Em to exercise his artistic ability and have some fun. (Relapse is rather like this, to a certain degree).

Look at it however you like, but the explanation is pretty simple.
As has been said before, it's referencing As The World Turns. It's a Soap Opera, hence the name of the skit being "Soap". He makes another Soap Opera reference in ATWT, saying "These are the Days of Our Lives". Days of Our Lives is the name of another American Soap Opera of similar caliber.
The skit itself is a perfect example of the dialogue found in these shows.
