The Eminem songs u would make a non rap lover hear?

Postby jshashwat » Nov 2nd, '11, 06:58

Which songs of Eminem would u make a person who doesn't really like rap at all hear for him to like Eminem? I mean songs like Beautiful or maybe Lose Yourself which people in general who don't give a fuck about the rap just maybe the catchy stuff in the song...?

It depends on the musical preference of the person, but I'd say something like Stan or White America.

It also comes down to how to present it. You need to let the person know what it is about the music that makes it so good. And then use the actual songs themselves as an example.

As for your question, it depends what type of song you're aiming for.

I like rock music the most, and I love Eminem music, so if it is a person with an open mind you can try with many songs..But maybe you should try with "sing for the moment" is a song that likes to almost all my friends, "Stan", I have a friend who hates Eminem and he likes "going through changes", "Cleanin' Out My Closet" is a good option too.

A Non-Rap lover would never prefer a song with a dark theme or cuss words handed out every now and then,so a soft song would do like "GTC" OR maybe even "LTWYL".

Going chronologically (as I have to have some kind of logic to satisfy my brain) then...

- 97 Bonnie & Clyde
- Rock Bottom
- Stan
- The Way I Am
- Criminal
- Cleanin' Out My Closet
- Without Me
- Sing for the Moment
- 'Till I Collapse
- Lose Yourself
- Medicine Ball
- Deja Vu
- Space Bound
- Cinderella Man

I have a friend who primarily listens to rock music, and she got into Eminem by listening to "Cleanin' Out My Closet", "Lose Yourself", and "Without Me". She also likes "When I'm Gone".

Not true at all. That of non rap lovers hate rap not because of cussing but because to their ears it sounds terrible and they cant see any evidence of talent on the rappers part.

I would go for Lose Yourself like you said, Stan as well is a good one.
The crazy thing is a lot of people like Toy Soldiers as well, you could play them that. Personally I couldn't I always get mad when people say 'Ohh i like Eminem too, i love (list a bunch of his poorer work)' So I always recommend The Way I Am to them.
Why not try Buisness, maybe even So Bad i think that has a lot of appeal to a lot of people.

Definitely depends on the person. I'd say that Still Don't Give a Fuck/Kill You are really entertaining tracks with a beat and tempo that packs enough adrenaline to keep you hooked throughout. The latter especially has a lot of added humour, too. I don't know anyone I know ,who dislikes Eminem, who hasn't vibed along to that track.

'97 Bonnie and Clyde has never really worked for me; most just listen to the lyrics and go: 'this is fucked'. It's a brilliantly architectured track, but it's really subjective; most are either really captivated by the emotion involved, or just think that Eminem needs (a lot of) help.

Rock Bottom doesn't generally have the lasting appeal to maintain people to listen to the track. I've found that the basic human instinct when listening to a song someone asks you to listen to is to lose concentration very quickly; or to immediately revolt it. Of course, it really depends on the person involved.
I was once humming the 8-mile beat (extremely catchy) and a friend loved that track. As aforementioned, the 'catchiness' appears to be an extremely important factor (unless the listener is intelligent enough to appreciate lyricism, delivery, rhyming and flow.)
A track like Criminal, as with Kill You and SDGAF, has the humour, catchiness, delivery and controversial lines to maintain strong levels of captivation.

The list could go on and on. I love I'm back, but when I first lsitened to it I found the chorus lazy. It goes to show how much your opinion can change when you listen to a track (and appreciate it) more.

Generally though, a catchy beat, catchy lyrics, and a great hook are a sure-fire way to maintain interest.
"Oh, he'll give us what we need.
It may not be what we want."
