Because if Eminem responds to a diss, it's a lose-lose for him. Even if it's the craziest diss ever written -- Eminem is still giving the person recognition. And negative or positive, recognition is recognition.


Also, he has to remain consistent. If he responds to one rapper, then he's gonna have to respond to all of them, which if that became the case; it would consume all of his time as an artist.

I mean, the only reason Canibus is known (just known) by half of the people who have heard him and are mainstream listeners is because Em mentions him in Role Model and Square Dance.

Yeah you got a point, time changes and Google runs our generations. I'm a fan of Canibus but I won't lie, I only knew him through the "U Didn't Care" track which was a 'reply' to Stan, so you're right.

Back then I think Rap wasn't mainstream minus a few gimmicks and Jay-Z, A rapper wasn't the 'celebrity' as he is now, he'd hang around the block like a normal person without receiving a 'celebrity' treatment. They had a lot of fans but they didn't spend all of their time at the internet trying to study rhyme schemes and inverse multi's. They were just fans with respect. And Masta Ace is well-respected (Which is even a better term than mainstream), so he was probably known by the community, not the radio. (This isn't granted doe, just some personal analysis).

I hear you, but the reason I used the term "mainstream" is because you could easily be well-respected by the hip hop community and not even be on a "mainstream" fan's radar.

Beefs are soon becoming the magic wand for fame, if you want attention diss some XYZ Mainstream Rapper and *Boom* you're in the limelight.If the diss is really that good & manges to do some damage, then rival Label's could sign that Rapper who put out the diss(Possibly). In short to get famous a name drop or a full fledged diss is necessary (Say), this is the current scene.

Now apply that logic with Eminem, he's the "Best Rapper Alive", he doesn't need attention(By beefing) to sell Albums.

But the fact remains, if any one goes to his family or crosses the limits for anything that happened in the past, then he should diss them. "The Warning" is a good example, she openly mocked him and got what she deserved.

Even recently with Relapse and Recovery. When he came out with Relapse he said he intentionally made the material less personal and serious so it wasn't 'all about him' and self-obsessed. Which I felt had been a major flaw for years, boxing himself in to only writing about personal issues.

It was clear from the start he made a conscious choice to make Relapse how he did. But then when it didn't connect like he wanted he used the excuse that he was still 'sobering up' and not 'thinking right' in order to justify totally contradicting himself and making an album pandering.

However, beefs are childish and a waste of his time. He may produce some brilliant diss tracks and lyricism because of it but I'd much rather he focused on new concepts.
