Recovery is a Powerhouse Album

Postby EminemBase » Dec 19th, '11, 00:54

I'm a bit drunk right now so that no doubt has influenced my decision to make this thread and to some degree my opinion on Recovery lmao...

BUT, I generally still feel the same and, I'm just listening to Recovery on repeat again, I don't seem to really tire of these songs, on "Almost Famous" again now, pure eargasm...

Whilst Recovery is not his best or up there with his best albums, I do think a lot of this material will be looked at as some of his best in years to come.

Mr. Porter was right when he said 'every song' was something. It's relentless. V. enjoyable.

I agree. Recovery isn't near as bad as most people try and make it out to be.

Recovery will be universally considered a classic shortly after Eminem drops his next solo LP, and people have something new to bitch about.

I feel like my comment was rather unnecessary, so I'll give my opinon on Recovery.

It's a solid album. I don't understand why people dislike the album just because of a few songs ("Love the Way You Lie", "Not Afraid"). They say it doesn't sound Eminem-ish.

Hmm, you sure about that? You sure it doesn't sound Slim Shady-ish?

"Love the Way You Lie" and "Not Afraid" are beautiful songs. Some of his best work since his come back. "Space Bound" is fantastic, as well. See, the thing about these songs is that.. Eminem dwells deep into these types of scenarios. He doesn't make a shitty love song like "Baby", that only reflects on the positive side of relationships. In "Not Afraid" the man is handing optimism to everyone in need, but yet everyone hates the song. And hates him for creating these types of songs.

Can't believe Eminem fans sometimes.

I think the error in Eminem's ways was, publicizing Slim Shady the character, more than publicizing Eminem the artist. Or Marshall Mathers the human.

Em realized since TES that they don't love Eminem much... they want Shady. Which must be sad for him because it's almost like they're all stuck on that. I personally enjoy Recovery a lot. As long as Em makes songs I like (Relapse/Recovery/BME) I'm cool. I wonder if Em'll ever do Him V. Shady. Not like My Darling, but like Welcome 2 Hell. Normal, then transition to Shady then back. I'd be into that.

The first line of "Without Me" explains it:
Eminem wrote:I've created a monster, cause nobody wants to see Marshall no more/
They want Shady, I'm chopped liver

Yep, that's the line too. Must've gave him a complex too because he IS Shady, but Eminem too, and they don't want Eminem. Shit, that sucks.

It depresses me when people rank Recovery and Relapse tied or ahead of the SSLP. I feel so much of what Em did on that album just bypasses a lot of fans.

On Recovery, it has its moments lyrically but it's too sloppy/inconsistent for me to really rank as anything but his second worst solo album. The overall production (and the hooks) sound really tacky and devalue the album as a whole, ruining potential replay value. Some of the really bad material overshadows some of the better stuff, which is a shame.
