Do you think Eminem wanted to sign to Psychopathic?

Postby DrDewofCovtown » Jan 18th, '12, 06:24

I'm sure your all aware of the beef that has come and gone between Eminem and ICP. But, Eminem has said before, that ICP was one of his influences. They were horrorcore (and remember, Eminem started off very dark) and also, from his hometown, Detroit. Also, something interesting I found. If any of you have listened to his album "Infinite" (1996, BEFORE the beef) he says in the song "Tonite" "I bury the hatchet," when he is talking about murdering someone. Not much, but could there be a connection? Obviously, it's good that he didn't sign with them, because he would have NEVER would have become the legend he is today.

I find it all very interesting. Your thoughts?

Nah tbh I don't think the Bury the hatchet line had anything to do with ICP. It was just word play on phrases mixed with complex rhyming which were basically his strongest attributes at the time.

As for signing with them, maybe. I mean, he did try to get them to see him live but honestly it was probably all for promotion purposes solely. So no, I don't think so.

EDIT: BTW Welcome to the Forum

The weaopon of choice in I.C.P's music is a hatchet

aslo, a sub label of Psychopathic is Hatchet House

It's possible, i mean, ICP was droppin albums before Em ever got heard of

not saying yes, but i'm not saying no,

also, side note, Twiztid, Eminem, and Proof went to the same school

for those who don't know Twiztid, they are also part of Psychopathic

As far as the "bury the hatchet" line goes, ICP and the rest of the record label use the hatchet as the "weapon of choice." Also, their symbol for their record label is the hatchetman, based off a dream that Shaggy 2 Dope had of a crazed man running through the streets of Delray with a hatchet.

Also, I admitedly don't have sources, but I remember Eminem listing ICP as an early influence somewhere. I think he said it once or twice after the beef ended, I am uncertain though. Also, remember, ICP has been around since 1989 (Known as the inner city posse. In 1992 they changed it to Insane Clown Posse) And before they became known worldwide, they made lots of noise in Detroit. So a young Eminem in high school, probably knew all about them. And like Geno said, Twiztid, (the next big group on Psychopathic) went to school with Eminem and Proof, so they probably spread the word about ICP as well.

This is all speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if Eminem was aiming towards Psychopathic. After all, he DID approach Violent J in 1997, with a flyer that was promoting his up and coming Slim Shady EP. That's how the whole beef started.

Wropng, ICP was doing it since the very early 90's, their first official album as Insane Clown Posse came out in 92 "Carnival Of Carnage"

that album featured Esham and Kid Rock

ICP has also worked with Ice T, and Old Dirty Bastard

Twizid has worked with Proof AND Bizarre of D12,

Psychopathic/Hatchet house is the 2nd label i know of that has artisted from De

The statement "they were both doing it in the late 1990s" isn't wrong. When ICP started doing it is irrelevant.

ICP is and always has been atrocious. Them being an influence on Eminem is a hilarious idea, especially when Eminem has always despised them. Today, Politically Correctinem says he's cool with them, but he probably thinks they're a bunch of idiots.

False. Why would Eminem have gone to one of their concerts, and hand them a flyer asking them to join his SSEP release concert, if he despised them? And as far as ICP being "atrocious" that comes down to your opinion. They have some great stuff out there, but it takes awhile to get used to. I used to hate ICP, but I gave them a fair chance, and throughout the years, they have become a personal favorite of mine. They grow on you, trust me.

Well, it would make sense to try and get his demo out to anyone in the business, whether you care for them or not. So that would make sense, even if he despised them. But I dunno, it's kind of a reach, but I can't say no for certain.

Like I said, it probably was just for promotion. In all honesty, I think Em could really give a fuck about most rappers unless they could help his career.

I remember watching an interview of Eminem from 1999 and he said in it that the ICP weren't actually from Detroit, but they were only pretending to be (or something to that effect).

ICP grew up in Delray, which is an inner city of detroit. However, when they created Psychopathic Records, they moved their headquarters about 20-30 miles away from the city. That's what Em was getting at.
