A Dilbert cartoon could not have scripted this one better! A Royal Oak executive, a former fiance and agent to Debbie Nelson Mathers, mom of famous rapper Eminem, had invested in an anti-bully rap song dubbed, Nobody Likes A Bully. The progressive hip-hop video with a memorable beat aired on YouTube in its entirety Jan. 2nd. And since then the anti-bully mantra has amassed a positive following as well as some repugnant comments from people who apparently loathe Ms. Nelson Mathers. “But why?” said Neal Alpert, New Viral Directions, Incorporated president. “Why can’t people forgive?”
The controversy stems from the many hardships Nelson endured while raising son Marshall. Her behavior and reputation were tarnished from incidents and stressors she had little control over. “She has suffered from Adult ADHD and Munchausen syndrome,” which have gone relatively undiagnosed Alpert confirmed. Mom and son Eminem’s welfare days were difficult. So much so they have left a “hole in the heart of all involved,” said Alpert. “The best anyone could ask for is forgiveness.”
According to Alpert 50, and a recent Oakland Press newspaper story, while he and Nelson never married and a book deal the two had collaborated on soured, both he and Nelson have moved on to more meaningful projects.
In 2011, Alpert started a fledgling Anti-Bully Campaign coalition aboard facebook. Over the years, he and Nelson had sustained bullying in a variety of ways. While managing a number of ventures, Nelson joined forced with Agent Alpert to help curtail such victimization. “Bullying comes in all forms -- family abuses, social network cyber-attacks, playground threats, peer pressure, drugs, over-eating, disorder harassment, and corporate greed.” Alpert truly believes Nelson has and continues to be harassed from ailments she has little control over.
The comments aboard the New Viral Directions’ YouTube page include: “Debbie Bitch haha” and “Until exist the man will exist the bullies too, this thing is useless.” Alpert said, “Nelson is not even in the video itself. She is supporting this anti-bully initiative and such negative comments are disrespectful.”
The creative three-minute story with a contemporary punchy hip-hop beat and poignant lyrics written by Kyle Wilson of Ypsilanti and produced by Steve Randel debuted on iTunes and Amazon.com last fall. Since then it has captured interest from the Judo Federation and schools. The Judo Federation is considering a different spin on the song to help positively promote the art of self-defense as a spiritual discipline.
Based on recent legislation approved by childhood bully victim and Michigan Governor Rick Synder, mandating anti-bully education and awareness programs, New Viral Directions is offering a number of doctorate prepared workshops and assemblies. The goal says Alpert, “Is to help avert the serious repercussions that bullying often brings. Having Kyle Wilson in our arsenal will help us make the message entertaining and memorable, factors that make quality education programs successful.”
Check out the video for yourself! See why the controversy really is much ado about nothing, but why the cause is so important about something. Something like bullying that Alpert and Nelson Mathers said has been responsible for so many suicides, children afraid to go to school, and adults who sometimes turn the other way instead of getting involved.
Ten percent of all Nobody Likes a Bully anti-bully school workshop, song and video sales go to several anti-bullying charities.
