How do you order a proper steak?

I went out to dinner with a couple of friends the other night. I ordered a ribeye steak, medium rare, onions and mushrooms on it. One of my friends had a problem with this, said a proper steak should be ordered at least medium, but usually should be ordered medium well. You shouldn't put any extra onions on it or anything either, just a brick of meat. My question is how anyone eats a steak like that? Maybe you guys can help settle this debate once and for all.


Also, steak always goes wonderful with we at least agree on that.

The proper way is the way you like it. If I order/cook a filet mignon, it has to be med-rare, with nothing on it. No veggies, no sauces, just straight up. Med-rare is the best for any steak. It holds more of the juices and taste then Med-well. It's just a little pink inside, but is awesome for all steaks. Sometimes pending on the type of steak or my mood, I'll add seasoning, onions, BBQ sauce.

Tell him I said he's a jackwagon because that's the opposite of the right way to order a steak. I personally like a little A1 or raw onion with mine.

med-rare, depends on how u like it, some places can pull it off quite well without the need for adding any bbq/steak sauce, whatever i prefer that day, if that place has a variety of sauces, then you're in luck. or eat it raw, i did once, and look how i turned out

I like my steak medium well, but most GOOD restaurants will will frown at that. He was wrong to tell you that you are in the wrong.

I went to a restaurant that were winners of SMH Good Food Guide One Hat Award (which is incredible) and the waitor urged me not to get it cooked medium well. I don't like it pink though, so what could I do?
