Rappers use "underground" as an excuse for not being good enough to make it. Like: "Yo, I`m totally underground, I don`t want to be a sellout like Em or Jay or...". Not all, but 90%.

*2Pac isn't crap, he's just overrated

I agree.

•Kendrick Lamar; I don't see the big deal. Whoever gave him his hype deserves credit, because they've fooled a lot of people. He's so generic, it's unreal. Hopsin, Soul Khan, and Watsky are all more original up and coming west coast rappers than him.

*Kendrick Lamar is the best thing that happened to Hip Hop in the 2000s since Lupe Fiasco

He's great and I definitely see the big deal.

*name* wrote:
•Rappers who only use mono syllable rhymes, along with a simple, repetetive flow, aren't worth listening to.

*Creativity isn't limited to multi-syllable rhymes and a complex flow .. some artists make their stamp in the listener's ear without rhyming 20 syllables and bragging about their technical skills, some rappers simply don't need those things. Creativity is not about exploring the box, it's about expanding it, and imo it's the most important thing in Hip Hop .. more on this on the Kanye West one.

Multies are still an important part of hip hop and deserve just as much attention as content.

*name* wrote:
•It seems as if 90% of women just can't rap.

*There's only one awesome female rapper that I listen to regularly, and that's Jean Grae .. all the rest either sound the same, suck dick or Nicki Minaj (I got mixed feelings towards her music)

Greasy's too dope, so is Lauryn Hill.

*name* wrote:

Agreed

No comment other than I love Rhyme Asylum.

*name* wrote:
•95% of mainstream Hip Hop is a pile of wank.

*95% of underground Hip Hop is trash, because while they demonstrate their lyrical skills they leave the listener (Which is me) yawning. They miss an important factor.

*Not a lot of mainstream rappers suck, most of them only get hate because they're popular

So does mainstream hip hop.
*Sensible fans of underground hip hop are quite aware that popularity doesn't = quality

*name* wrote:
•Jay-Z is a pile of wank.

*Jay-Z is the best rapper of all time

Prime Eminem is every bit as good as Prime Jay-Z.

*name* wrote:

*Kanye West is a legendary rapper and is an amazing person due to what he does, his music reveals his true personality http://www.kanyetothe.com/forum/index.p ... c=180681.0

Not about to start checking out KTT (no offense), on topic doe, Ye is a great rapper but not a top 10 (as an all around artist/musician I'd consider him top 5.)

*name* wrote:
•Everyone signed with Young Money are a pile of wank.

*Not all of who signed with Young Money is shit, Cory Gunz and Drake for example .. and Lil Wayne was an amazing rapper

*name* wrote:
•DMX is a shit, gimmick rapper.

*While DMX isn't a good technical rapper but he remains one of the greatest, simply because NO ONE did music that sounded like what he did .. and it was awesome.

Agreed.

No comment, I don't listen to these artists.

- Eminem compromised his integrity with Recovery and has had little to rap about since then

- Relapse came at the most unfortunate time, because it's taken people this time to realise just how good it was.

- Shady 2.0 will suffer the same fate as Cashis and Bobby Creek

- The obsession with punchlines needs to die because it's polluting the genre

- Wayne, Drake, Kanye, Jay-Z are not all that talented, and people need to stop letting the amount of money these rappers accumulate blind their eyes. Talking to you, Cream.

- Jedi Mind Tricks has lost the spark with Stoupe gone

- Rhyme Asylum are legitimately one of the most creative artists period in the genre

- Most hip hop fans now are idiots, this forum being a prime piece of evidence

- Dr. Dre is a boring, creativity-lacking musician, the only thing he can take any credit for is his beats and the fact that anyone still cares about Detox surprises me.

- The members of Slaughterhouse were all better before signing to Shady; now they're fucked in terms of getting any music out.

- "Nerdcore" rappers can be great if they tread the line properly without being obvious about it.

- Kanye West has fucking sucked shit since 808s & Heartbreak and I haven't enjoyed a single thing he's done since then, both musically and in general.

- Nicki Minaj actually has good delivery, but I agree that she looks like an inbred.

- Most hip hop fans are idiots (as mentioned earlier) who have no right to complain about the state of hip hop when they continue to support the very bullshit they decry. Want creative music? Stop giving Jay-Z millions a year to rap about how much money he has by buying his fucking albums if you don't enjoy them. And if you do enjoy them, don't hide behind a mask of intelligence, just admit that you enjoy lyrically vapid music with decent production values.

- There hasn't been a genuinely interesting up and comer in hip hop for like half a decade. And before you say: no, Yelawolf doesn't count. He's an Eminem knockoff with a more rednecky vibe.

- UK Hip Hop has shining bits of grace that get overshadowed by the massive piles of wank, to quote that other guy.

- Xzibit needs to do more shit

Not the type of punchlines that are dominating right now, the punchlines i'm talking about are the Jay/Wayne style, "i'm the ___, you the ___" or "i'm ___, ___" kind of BULLSHIT you hear every fucking where.

RA's punchlines have incredible thought put into them and every single one makes sense and fits in with the song.

If so that was one of the best punchlines I've ever heard, so props to them. Would be cool to hear more like that.

"Master degree burns after a heat stroke of genius" I think is what you're referring to.
Which is them.

"When the fists fly, your face is the landing strip
Rock your boat and your teeth will abandon ship"

"And I ice pick my brain for rhymes, my frame of mind
Turns food for thought into migraines of rice"

Is just a couple, there's a whole thread right here for their lines.

Nicki Minaj's verse on Monster is quite possibly the most overrated piece of shit I've heard in my life.

*Tical is the best Wu solo album.
*Like Water for Chocolate is Common's best album.
*Joe Budden is fucking awful and is easily the weakest member of Slaughterhouse.
*A Tribe Called Quest are the greatest rap group of all time.
*Roots >>>>> Wu
*Untitled is Nas's second best album.

I would have to say Kanye is a top 10 producer for me, but top 10 rapper? Well, maybe he'd take #10.

Hmm.. I got another one: Eminem is still in his prime and can out perform any other rapper on a track. :coffee:

I have never understood hype about Pac & Biggie and calling them the greatest.
1980-1995 rap is (comparing to present days) technically a lot weaker. (Illmatic is an exception)
Tyler the Creator CAN´T rap. Fuck you, he cannot go with the rhytm.
Earl Sweatshirt is a proof that anyone can make songs and then be compared to Nas. Fuck you, too.
Asap Rocky is good, but repetitive a lot.
Rick Ross is a fake proof that rap is all about money. How can he steal the identity from the best drug dealer and rappers still want to collab with that gorila?
Lyrics are less important than delivery, flow and the sound of the whole track.

I will think about more later
Em&Tech&Fif&Banks&Kanye&Bobby&Yela.
