Fantastic film. Even if you have a hard time with subtitles, I still think you should give this film a try. The film was high enough quality, by the end I didn't care about the subtitles. It was great story, acting, screenplay, music, everything about this film was high quality. It's a deeply emotional war movie told from the side of the Japanese Soldiers on Iwo Jima. It was made roughly at the same time as Flags of our Fathers, by the same director, Clint Eastwood. The two films are about the battle of Iwo Jima just told from opposite perpsectives, American and Japanese. Too often, we see war from one side, ours. Letters from Iwo Jima, humanizes war and makes watchers realize that the enemy is just as human as our allies.
