Welcome To: Our House - will it be better than 1st album?

Postby Kill You » Mar 20th, '12, 00:24

Title says it all. I've been listening to their first album quite a bit, and it really is a good album if you just like to hear great rapping. So, it raises the question...do you think their major label debut will exceed the first album lyrically and production-wise? This is of course all just speculation on how you think the album will be.

As for myself, I think it will be better in a lot of ways. I'm not sure if they'll sound as hungry or not, so that remains to be seen, but for the most part I see this album not disappointing.

What's so obvious? I am just trying to start conversation...this place is dead until Richard comes out.

Initially I would have said yes...

But seeing how much Em's influence fucked up Radioactive so much... could go either way.

Wasn't Radioactive practically finished before Em even signed Yelawolf though?

Slaughterhouse have said multiple times how Em lets them "take their own direction" so I feel like they'll do something great. I'm really fuckin pumped.

Yes, it was. Almost all of it was finished before Yela was signed.

I bet so

Debut albums always have glarring flaws, they have had time to get smarter for this 2nd album.

Yes but then Yelawolf spoke of Em's influence in terms of making the album more 'worldwide'...

And you can see with the tracks Em co-produced... everything that is wrong with Radioactive, is Yela's attempt to appeal to a broader audience for the sake of hits...

And to me, that sounds like Em's thinking of making it more 'worldwide'...

Even down to Em and others making Yela do "Good Girl".

Every track up until that track feels organic and awesome, but then it fucks up and gets gooey.

Which is ridiculous, to try and compromise what Yela does, on his first album. Can you imagine Dre trying to make Em do a 'female track' or Em trying to write a song for 'all working class people' on The Slim Shady LP? Dre let Em do what the FUCK he wanted, 110%.

I don't feel Em did that with Yela, I feel he had a detrimental effect on the album.

You can tell where the influence seeps in, when Yela's subject-matter becomes broader and there's a fucking guest on the hook (which Yela doesn't even need ffs). That's what ruined Radioactive.

I kinda agree with you EmBase, I hope they change direction next album. Do you think that they will learn form their mistakes, and when do you see Yelawolf releasing his next album? Also, I been thinking about this lately. I can't fucking wait for Eminem to feature Yelawolf on his own solo product, image the buzz that will garner. He's bound to blow up by then unless Eminem doesn't feature him.

Dr Dre made Eminem do the jokey first singles. "Hie my Name is" in particular. #just saying

No he didn't.

"My Name Is" was an accidental hit. Eminem didn't intend for it to be a hit, he jokingly went "Hi, my name is!" when the beat came on, and that became the vibe of the song (jokey / sarcastic)...

Then after that was a success, Jimmy Iovine wanted Em to do another 1st single like it. Which resulted in Em making "The Way I Am" in response / out of anger / pressure.

Then once Em made "The Real Slim Shady" he felt like he knew the formula... then he perfected it with "Without Me" and nose-dived the concept with "Just Lose It". And finalized it with "We Made You". But Dre didn't make him do them. And even if he did, that's not equal to trying to influence the entire undertone of an album and fucking up its outcome.

the first album was made in literally 1 week, and joe budden wasnt good on the album.
the album was random "whatever" tracks.

this one has more time, better production. Joe will be stronger and has topical tracks
with direction.

will easily be better

Em didn't actually make Yelawolf do "Good Girl". That track was already finished and Em said he liked it. Then Yela asked Em to do a skit for it.

Yela explained this in Complex.

Wouldn't that be Yela's fault? He didn't come to Em for advice, only a verse. Whereas SH probably welcomed his help and actually wanted it. I hope Em works more with Yela on his second album. Radioactive could have been great, the first half is class while the second half is lacking. Still a good album but he should've got some Em beats or something. Yela on an Em beat would be awesome, don't understand how this hasn't even happened yet.

Working a lot doesn't mean quality goes down, it depends on the artist really (if you can't make a decent song if you take a shit load of time don't try to work faster, look at Eminem when he came out, it worked). Yelawolf makes it work, he did say he puts his time into every syllable he lays and that he is in the business of making classics, not quantity over quality. Eminem didn't have a chance to work on Yelawolf's project really. And Slaughterhouse will sell more but Yelawolf's second album will sell more than their second.
