Well let's take this 25 at a time and see:

26. Circle Of Tyrants - Circle Of Tyrants
27. Yak Ballz - Scifentology
28. Unusual Suspects - Unusowl
29. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up
30. Danny Brown - XXX
31. Chief Kamachi - Rise & Rhyme Vol. 1
32. Sabac Red - Sabacolypse (A Change Gon' Come)
33. Mr. Hyde - Chronicles of the Beastman
34. Goretex - The Art Of Dying
35. Earl Sweatshirt - EARL
36. Binary Star - Masters Of The Universe
37. Brotha Lynch Hung - Season Of Da Siccness
38. Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
39. Redman - Dare Iz A Darkside
40. Method Man - Tical
41. Canibus - Rip The Jacker
42. El-P - Fantastic Damage
43. DMX - It's Dark And Hell Is Hot
44. Killah Priest - The 3 Day Theory

And 50-0 at halftime, this isn't looking good for Recovery so far. Will it make a recovery in the second half?

I'm a fan of R.A., but I don't think Die Rugged Man, Die was a very good album.

He makes impressive songs, but he just can't seem to lace together a quality album.

And I'll never understand all of the love for Earl Sweatshirt, but I haven't heard that album, so I can't really comment on it.

Odd future fans are calling him the next Nas and shit like that, and I never got the appeal. I prefer Tyler, even though I don't really like him, I liked some of his features. (Martians vs Goblins, Trouble in my Mind..)

Definitely. Are there 25 rap albums that sold more recovery the last five years, that's more of an interesting question, but still has nothing to do with the quality.

^ i wanna see albums and numbers tho, my guess is recovery isn't too far outside top 25 sales-wise if its not in the top 25. but, 4 em albums sold more so right there is a good chunk.

Menzo wrote:I don't think anyone from Odd Future can touch Recovery's presence. Same with Canibus' Rip The Jacker, that's my favourite Canibus album and his most enjoyable, but ehh.

Well Rip The Jacker has much, MUCH better production than Recovery, that isn't even debatable. Stoupe laced him with great production while Recovery was Eminem's worst produced album since Infinite. Lyrically, in terms of rhyming Eminem takes it, Canibus either rhymes big complicated words to make himself seem like an impressive lyricist or has basic inners and end rhymes ending in the same one syllable. In terms of lyrical content i'd give it to Canibus, i'd take his throwback to the Roman Empire shit (which for the record works great over the production) over Eminem's terrible punchlines & forced, psuedo-serious, generic emotion any day.

EARL, Bastard, Goblin & the Radical mixtape would be the only Odd Future releases i'd say are better than Recovery. Basically everyone besides Earl and Tyler is terrible from that group.

EARL is like Earl's version of the SSEP, he beats out Eminem on Recovery lyrically both rhyme scheme-wise and in terms of wittiness, he has a smooth laidback delivery as opposed to Eminem's hoarse shouting on Recovery. Ironically enough a 16 year old's content is more mature on some songs than a 30 year old's, referencing the scattered horrible punchlines on Recovery of course.

Bastard is kinda the same deal as Canibus in terms of production and not being good rhyme-wise. My favorite songs from Bastard > my favorite songs from Recovery (Assmilk/Seven > Almost Famous/Cold Wind Blows), it's a more consistent album overall, although the worst song on it, VCR/Wheels, is worse than anything on Recovery. Eminem's flow is better than Tyler's, Tyler's aggressive delivery isn't forced like Eminem's is.

While Die, Rugged Man, Die isn't on par with some of his featured verses, it was still a good album. I know alot of people think it's a disappointment just because he didn't have Uncommon Valor-esque verses all throughout the album, which was made 2 years before Uncommon Valor anyways. But it was still a very solid effort, just not the classic he has the potential to make. if anything else it's still better than Recovery. Also RA is dropping an album sometime this year if you didn't already know, something to look forward to.

Earl has great multies, the same kind of crazy, serial killer, druggy content that early Eminem had and a very smooth, effortless sounding flow & delivery.

Emadyville wrote:better question: are there 25 rap albums that sold more than recovery?

Revolutionary wrote:That's your opinion VBV, I don't think Danny's album is anywhere near Recovery.
But yeah, you could probably list 10s of albums that are better.

Well for one, XXX was a much more creative, original and effective insight into addiction than either Recovery or Relapse was. You can't judge XXX like a normal rap album, it's not in that lane, it's an acquired taste. Also I hope you're not one of those people who just heard his XXL cypher verse and are underestimating him based on that.

Menzo wrote:Lol

Really though, carry on.

Yeah, that's cool & all, only the majority of the albums that i've listed haven't been cliche "classix hip hawpz" albums that you'd find by Googling a list, and the majority of the ones that do show up when you do are actually better than Recovery. Also if anyone wants to debate any of them being better than Recovery, i'm open to that, if I was Googling lists i'd just ignore them.

Last 25:

76. Reain - The Metaphorcast
77. Onyx - All We Got Iz Us
78. Fort Minor - The Rising Tied
79. The Roots - How I Got Over
80. Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens
81. Elite - Awaken
82. GZA - Liquid Swordz
83. King Gordy - King of Horrorcore Vol.1
84. One Be Lo - SONOGRAM
85. Pacewon - Won
86. Illmaculate - The Rain Check Mixtape
87. Q-Unique - Vengeance is Mine
88. Tame One - When Rappers Attack
89. Dead Celebrity Status - Blood Music
90. Edan - Beauty And The Beat
91. IDE - Rite Of Passage
92. Flatlinerz - USA: Under Satans Influence
93. Busta Rhymes - The Big Bang
94. CunninLynguists - A Piece Of Strange
95. Sadistik - The Balancing Act
96. Wax & Dumbfoundead - Clockwise
97. Grieves - Together/Apart
98. Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
99. Children Of The Damned - Tourettes Camp
100. Nas - Illmatic

Aaand done, also I should note that the iMayday! album that came out this week is also better than Recovery. Image

Revolutionary wrote:Well, as name (C.R.E.A.M) said on another thread...Liking him is not easy, it's a taste thing.
I just don't like his voice and yeah back when the XXL Cypher came out I was a bit upset about his verse and based my opinion on that verse.

But I did end up checking some of his stuff out, I don't know...It feels like something is missing but he definitely got talent. That's my opinion tho, it doesn't represent a fact.

Well it's because you're not familiar with enough that kind of Hip Hop, if i'd listened to something like Dr. Octagon, Jak Progresso, Aesop Rock or Danny Brown a year or 2 ago i'd be like "what the fuck is this shit" too. It's just something that ends up clicking. But chances are when you have Recovery in your top 25 albums you'd be unable to appreciate alternative hip hop like that.

Also you shouldn't be judging him off of the XXL cypher AT ALL. That was a recycled verse, and he's not a hot 16 rapper, he's a full artist, you need the full album experience to judge him properly.

name wrote:somebody recommended me K-Rino the other day in KTT and i kinda neglected that, guess i should download that album you mentioned

Do it, K Rino is very slept on, he's put out like 20 albums since the 90's, the album I named is from 2010 & it's very good, yet people still barely know who he is. He dissed Eminem back in 03 when the racist tapes came out.
