First and foremost, for people who don't know, these nominations are based on the most commercially successful artists of last year. Not who Billboard think are the best, just who sold the most songs, got the most radio airplay, etc.
Billboard base who the "Top Social Artist" categories on who gets discussed the most on social networking sites. Eminem doesn't have to do anything really. Billboard I think do some sort of search of all the major networking sites to see which artists and their songs get discussed the most. They publish a chart of it each week infact.
And Bad Meets Evil classify as a "new artist" since 2011 was only the first year that they entered the Billboard charts iirc.
And LMFAO are right to be in the rap category. Not saying they're amazing rappers, but they ARE rappers, and they were amongst the most commercially successful last year. If it was a hip hop category, then it wouldn't be right for LMFAO to be there, but it's just for people who rap full stop, it doesn't need to be on hip hop beats for that category.
