And incidentally, why is Dido not classed at pop? Or Elton John for that matter? If a track is beautifully produced, written and executed, there's nothing to say he can't work with a pop-star. Of course the bigger the name the harder it will be to work (Elton doesn't count, he's a recognised genius) but it's not impossible.

It's own genre classified by singers who make love ballads or dance songs with catchy hooks, and music fits current trends, pop music used to be a short term for popular music, but not anymore.

There isn't. We just know Em's working on music for something, and that he wants to spend a lot of time on it and can't do Southpaw. Personally, that says he's working on an album to me, because if it was just a collab or something he wouldn't have to postpone Southpaw, it wouldn't take that much time and effort and commitment. But no, there hasn't been any word from Em's camp on what exactly Em is working on.

Dido is classified as pop, but the song was Stan and she had a purpose in the song besides the generic chorus. You already answered why its ALWAYS ok to work with Elton.
