2. I don't use the term overrated very often, actually, it's quite rare. I look it from the objective perspective - facts/available statistics. And based on soley that, I stick by my statement.

I look at the word overrated in kinda the same way as I look at the word overvalued in the stock-market... i.e... what is the reason for the sudden gains in terms of facebook-fans/sold albums (or stock-price, when talking about stocks)... Is it something great the artist released? (or in the case of a Company, was it something great they accomplished?)... Or, is it basically hype/emotions that is pushing up the way we interpret value?

3. "People exaggerate...". I disagree. I'd put it the other way around.

You seriously believe he only sold below 25 million albums before his death?

What album are you talking about? His album sales were already huge, and of course sales are going to increase when an artist dies. People want to remember that nostalgia and sometimes big news makes people discover things they never heard before.

People need to get off the '" I was a fan first!!!" crap, it does not and should not matter when a person becomes a fan of an artist.

1. Google/Wiki "SoundScan", see what it is.
2. If you look at industry facts from the mid 2000s decade onward, and compare 2000-2008 with 2009-2012, my point is almost undisputable, imo.
3. Never did I state that I had problems when people becomes a fan of an artist.

MJ had a long career, it was not unusual that his numbers were lower than expected, especially since his last album "Invincible" from 2001 was not that critically acclaimed.

He was not doing alot musically from 2000-2008 so how would that matter? It amazes me when people talk about things like this.

What do we expect when big musicians die, people to just to say "aww shucks" and for the album sales to stay stagnant and at the same percent it was before?

What will it take to get this through your thick skull. You've changed your angles so many times now. It's like you're arguing for the sake of arguing.

Next Episode stated how he think MJ is overrated. Due to him being suddenly seen as this 'bigger than life' artist by tons of ignorant people simply because of his death and good marketing. His statistics show this.

Regardless of how great you perceive MJ, the reasons he is regarded so highly in the masses now is due to his death.

Anyway...MJ's situation is completely different from Em's. In my opinion, Em is not considered the 'best' in the black community because he is white. Hip-hop begun as a black art form that was our own and to some people its...weird, i guess to admit a white guy does it the best. Arguably. I couldnt go through the whole thread but MJ was African American so that racial component is not as deep. Maybe Elvis is the closet thing to consider..a white guy doing black music. How many times has Em won a BET award? or performed?

That's all interesting and everything but Eminem still has tapes out there where he is saying "n-i-g-g-e-r", left Chaos Kid out to dry, and is too much of a wimp to own up PUBLICALLY about how idiotic he was for fueling the Lauryn Hill rumor and how hypocritcal he was for joking about letting her two kids kids starve(it was two at the time)..........then going around like a fool by getting angry when Ja Rule also makes fun of his "Hailie". Does that make any sense at all? Dissing Everlast mother after he dissed his daugther?....................

Didn't want to waste energy with Canibus but was quick to diss Mariah Carey,(For your information EpicForever she started it man!!!).

Jadakiss should have never stopped Styles P from beating up Em when they were in the studio together............ :coffee: When Styles was heated over the whole racist tapes situation.

Dude needs to seriously get his comeuppance(thank you Zoey 101 for teaching me that word) one day.

:(

But back to Michael.......I really am shocked by this news, I am just hearing it. What a shame. This guy was such a legend. :(

So you actually believe Eminem is/was a racist because of a mere stupid tape against black WOMEN? If not, your argument that Eminem was being hypocritical in calling out Lauryn for racism is invalid. I would also like to know why you think Eminem owes her an apology; what if he still thinks she's a racist? Or knows something we don't? Don't jump into conclusions by the few things you know off the internet.

'letting her kids starve' was a flip on her own remarks; it in no way was a diss to her kids.

Ladies and gentleman once again a person proves how naive Eminem fans can be when it comes to Marshall.

Don't tell me you still believe those rumors about Lauryn were real? MTV themselves came to her defense and said there was no indication that it was real. It was a rumor that went out of control.

Like the naive little sheep that you are you simply believed it because Eminem told you he "heard about it". Are you able to think about things for yourself?

Of course he does not think she is still a racist, he already made himself look stupid in that interview he gave about Lauryn Hill since his own tapes came out 4/5 years later. He knows he was wrong. He is too much of a coward to own up to things like this publicly when he is wrong. And its about time an interviewer calls him out on it.

"Letting her kids starve" being a flip on her own remarks makes no sense because she NEVER made the remarks in the first place.

Once again stop being a stereotypical Em sheep. Its people like you and "kiki" that make Em fans be well known for doing things like this. Stop being a sheep. There is NO TAPE or confirmation that Lauryn Hill said this but because you hear Em say he "heard rumors, etc" it has to be true right?

Learn to think for yourself as a fan and not just repeat everything that an artist says.

@EpicForever(I'm messing up the quotes)
You wisely skipped the 'hypocrisy' part.
You're yet to answer how Em was being hypocritical in calling out Lauryn when he himself wasn't a racist!
"There was no indication that it was real" - MTV(Who understandably didn't want to drag themselves into the controversy) =/= She came out clean. 'Smoke without fire' much?
I'm not saying she's a racist but I don't have any sorts of receipts to go and bash someone who believes she is.

"Stop being a stereotypical Em sheep".
Pretty much sums up what you're so desperately upto. As much as I cringe at herd mentality myself, you're nothing more than a wannabe rebel. Sounding different is not always cool.
Edit: Also, that line was nothing more than an example of pop culture reference that Em is so famous for.

"I would rather have my children starve than white people buying my cds" was something that was floating around at that point of time; true or not doesn't really matter(for that particular line).

^..............If it turned out that what Lauryn Hill said was true after all, would you say she was a racist? of course you would. don't lie and say you wouldn't either. But if hypothetically that did happen, how is that different than Em's older tapes?

You guys keep dancing around this and defending Em in any way you can and never owning up to things, Lol at using 'pop culture references" for every excuse over and over again

The same clichéd answer you hate; the age. Em was 16/17 when he rapped those lines in probably worst of his times(dropping out, break up, family issues to list a few), he was ignorant as hell. Not to forget that teens in the 80's weren't as informed as the kids today are with knowledge at their fingertips. Lauryn was 23 when she apparently made that statement, a well established artist in an industry/genre that has racism attatched to it's roots.
I admit it was quite stupid on Em's part to believe in those rumours(if he just "heard the rumours") but hypocrisy and stupidity are two different things.
