Evening,
I've been an Eminem fan for quite some years now, and I just happened to stumble upon this website. You guys have done a great job and seem to be the "to-go" place for the biggest Em updates. Props. Here's my issue:
I've been reading through some posts on this site for a few weeks and some of the things posted here are plain ridiculous. I understand you guys are avid Eminem fans; and for good reason; I really enjoy his work too. That said, do you actually "listen" to his work? For me, my first experiences with Em's music were The Eminem Show, Marshall Mathers LP, Slim Shady, and Infinite albums. Infinite is my favorite Em album. I loved Marshall Mathers LP. The Em show was good. Really enjoyed Slim Shady LP. Then came Encore. I heard that shit was like "this dude must be on drugs to make this bullshit." While I don't know the actual timeframe of when it happened, its kind of ironic it becomes public that hes a drug addict, so I guess he gets a Lebron James "pass" on that one. So I figured, "well every artist has a bad album, all uphill from here." Then I listened to Relapse. Holy shit. I got through the first 7 tracks, got to "We Made You" and had to turn that shit off. Here I thought this dude would stop making terrible music, but I was wrong again. Oh and I did get through the album (eventually), but at this point I lost all faith. Then came Recovery. Not very much of a recovery from the last album, this shit was also pretty terrible. The only good songs on the album were like "Love the Way You Lie," "So Bad," and "No Love" (one of the best tracks he's made in years, but I'll get to that later).
For me, good music has to be lyrical, have good punch lines, and be "somewhat" relevant - as of recent, Em doesn't do any of this. The last "relevant" line I heard Em spit was during the BET cypher where he tried to talk about Casey Anthony. That said, dude came kind weak. I listened to that shit quite a few times and when I heard "I'd make a great magician because I'd fuck a trick up," I just busted out laughing cuz this dude has run out of steam.
Don't get me wrong, I like Eminem. But when you make shitty songs like "Put it on my wee wee," how can you guys justify this shit? This dude is terrible now and has plain fallen off. His sales are even falling - The Carter IV straight up shit on Recovery the first week. Going to my "No Love" comment, the only reason that song was great was because of Weezy. Kind of funny to have a guy spit on your track and outshine you, but what can you expect from Marshall? In fact, he did the same thing on "Forever"- both Drake and Wayne. I apologize for getting off topic but when I heard people try to say Em is better than Wayne (more topics I see on this website), it just irritates me people can have no taste in music.
So I digress, do you guys actually listen to his music? I've been trying but this guy has just straight fallen off since Marshall Mathers LP. I used to think this guy was one of the greatest of all time but he just can't make good music anymore. Some of the posts I've seen on this website are just wayyyyyy left field. I know there's the joke on here that some of you guys are "Stans," but seriously come on. You guys are riding this guys nuts like a merry-go-round and I think its about time someone gave a more objective approach to Em's music. In fact, some of the hottest in the game right now are Lil Wayne (possibly the greatest rapper ever), Drake (new school flavor, great punch lines and lyrics despite same beat every song and singing), and Nicki Minaj (while shes still developing, shes putting in work and reppin female rappers and phat asses). Funny how they're all under the same record label, huh?
Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,
Concerned Eminem Fan
