The thing is i'm a debator in general so all this "conscious" "deep" shit that have people in rap up in a bunch (Control Sytem, Striaght outta Compton, 2pac philosophies) sound laughably impractical, contrived or irrelevant. I'm more for aesthetics. I want it to SOUND good. I want the Tech N9ne speed, the kendrick lamar smooth, the B.o.B fun stuff and not necessarily the "blood" shit by all these conscious guys. When i listen to it, i am looking forward to quotables- little nuggets of words that resonate.

Oh it sounds good for sure. Lupe has excellent delivery, and used to have a good beat selection. Give the 2 albums a listen, and I think you'll like them. Also, Lupe's deep ish is more of a double/triple meanings stuff, and a ridiculous range of references.

What the hell does "today" mean, the past year, past 5 years, past ten years. Either way gonna go with Nas as I think Hip Hop is Dead and Untitled which came out relatively recently (unless you're a faggot who considers those two albums far off) better than Lasers and almost as good if not better than F&L (typo) and The Cool. Distant Relatives is take it or leave it, the whole today aspect though just seems like a bullshit lopsided way of making it easier for lupe to win, if we include all time than Nas blows lupe's out of the water.

Only if you're referring to today "literally", since many times it just referred to as the present times and that's very vague and nondescript.
