Masta Ace Reveals Eminem Collabo Was Prevented

Postby babyjane » Jun 28th, '12, 15:22

DX: I wanna wrap up this quick Q&A by asking you about a couple of recent tweets you made [@mastaace]. Someone tweeted you on June 11th asking if you would ever work with Eminem, and you replied [that the deejay constructed] “Hellbound” may remain your only sorta collabo. I’m a little surprised that even after he wrote about [your influence on him] in his book, [The Way I Am], and remixed “SlaughtaHouse” [in 2008 for Delicious Vinyl’s Rmxxology project] that that conversation between y’all never happened.

Masta Ace: Yeah [pauses], it’s tricky, man. He was originally supposed to be on Disposable Arts. A lot of people don’t know that. The track that Young Zee is on with me and Strick, [“Something’s Wrong”], he was supposed to be on that track. And, management kinda came in and got a little heavy-handed I guess and told him that wasn’t in his best interest at that time.

Now, I don’t know where he’s at career-wise, mentally, whatever else-wise now, but I know that back then he said that it just wasn’t gonna work out.

I’m not one to keep pursuing stuff. I’m a Brooklyn dude, so my mentality is always like, “I’ll mess with you if you mess with me. If you ain’t messing with me, then it’s all good, I’ll keep it moving.” It’s a pride factor a little bit, you know. And, sometimes pride’s not a good thing to have. But, that’s my mentality on it. Like, he would literally have to reach out to me and be like, “Yo, let’s do something.” Then I’d be with it. But I’m not gonna reach out again like that. And it’s all love but I’ll leave it where it’s at.

PRIME EMINEM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON DISPOSABLE ARTS??! Fuck, that would have been amazing.

Something's Wrong has the kind of beat that would have complemented Em back then nicely as well.

I am kinda proud of Masta Ace right now, because he does not hunt down Eminem to collab with him.

Im also kinda pissed off at Em now, because we could of had a classic record back when Disposable Arts was out,but FUCK YOU MARSHALL!
The devil ain't on a level same as him!

Same reasons why Em will never work with kanye and Nas despite them respecting each other, it wont happen cause of management and there egos to not wanting to reach out, shame really. If jay never reached out to Em, there would be no Renegade and wouldn't have worked together.

I'm just gonna say it...what is Dispoable Arts?
August 22 2013 - from Berlin to Paris, 400€ spent just for Eminem. IT WAS WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT!

Interesting...

His management is known to fuck with Em's possible collaborations with dope rappers. 1st Masta Ace now Tech N9, what the fuck? And the same people allow him to do a joint with Wayne, gimme a fucking break. Coudn't they see what the potential the collab could have brought. It's rubbish if they say Eminem was not interested. Mind you, Masta Ace wasn't "any other rapper" back then. I'm sure it's his management that's holding back Tech's collab, fucking idiots.

Any particular reason, apart from being busy? Busy in what? I guess that was the reason, it didn't seem legit to me.

It all comes down to money I believe. Tech N9ne & Masta Ace, while very dope & talented, don't make anywheres close the amount of money that Lil Wayne makes off of record sales, so I believe that plays a big part in it, but I could be wrong.

After he blew up with the SSLP, for awhile there he only did records w/ Shady Records/Aftermath artists/Detroit artists/friends- Obie Trice, Sticky Fingaz, etc.

Do people realize that he stopped working with Missy Elliot, Skam, etc. smaller acts after he got really big?

Too bad, Masta Ace is the truth as any other Juice Crew member... I'd have loved to get that back then, not even with just Masta Ace but all of them... I mean Big Daddy Kane, Cool G. Rap. Masta Ace, Craig G, Biz Markie, MC Shen... It's fucked up label politics prevented this not to happen because Em has said or has rapped about all those been an influence to him at some point of his early career.

Do you mean that he is a sell out? I don't think you do, but that's some valid points you just made. But this is long time before Wayne even made it big, so that wasn't a matter, I think. There's something else, maybe the label wanted to maintain a status quo or some shit.

Looking at the scenario now, it about money and status.
