The colours learn towards 'dark' and 'muddy', they make my mind go to a more neutral and open place and The Marshall Mathers LP is a self-aware, live album, your mind needs to be open to it.

Then you have the fact that's it's Eminem aka Marshall Mathers crunched up in a vulnerable position on the ground. This could be interpreted as him being backed in to a corner, he's vulnerable to: attack / criticism / abuse / whatever, and he's about to bite back (basis of the album).

The cover implies dark and personal. Which, outside of the conceptual basis, is the album.

That cover perfectly fits the sound and feel of the album to me.
