People have diffrent definitions of what's great lyrically but it's about complete songs covering everything lyrics speaking on things people relate to, good flow, good hook, good beat a complete package like GTC

First off, true artists aren't trying to get you to relate to them. They're just doing them. Secondly, sure, GTC had a good flow, but nothing more than good. It was nothing cosmic, which you'd expect from "the best song". The hook is much much older than 2 years, and the beat is pretty stock.

Please note that this isn't me shitting on the song, but this song is shit when you're trying to define it as the best.

You need to realize that it's all subjective. For me the pinnacle of hiphop (and music as a whole) is crazy choppy out-of-this-world flows mixed with ridiculous mind-altering rhyme structures. Of course, this means that you sacrifice a lot of touchy-feely emotions, so you can't really come out the other side with a song like GTC. The things that needed to be said in GTC would have come off weird if Em tried to get crazy with the flow and rhyming and all that. He kept it smooth and consistent start to finish because that's what is required to tell these kinds of stories. But due to that you automatically throw away your chances at making "the best song". Which is a retarded concept as a whole. And I never use the word retarded.

I define great lyrics as what was said in songs like Going THrough Changes the actual words, the meaning, the relating etc it is really simple i feel it just comes down to speaking on something real and delivering the message well great content delivered well with all the things needed to like flow, delivery, passion..


It's your opinion that a song from Nas new album is better but i disagree i have not heard a song on there as good as Going Through Changes. I heard Banks Mixtape like him but just wasn't impressed like that lyrics nothing special and the hooks average where as i felt Recovery was the complete package of great lyrics, relating, really catchy hooks but i will say production was not good..
