In addition to some of the basic publicist tactics used to protect celebs, like making reservations under false names, Levine says hiring security and using decoy celebrities are some of the extremes that have become common.
“I think it will give some potential relief to celebrities who are used to being photographed but not accosted,” Levine said.
Kim Kardashian left Australia on Friday and security used a decoy to make sure the reality star made a safe exit. She has been surrounded by media and paparazzi in the past, but it seems that her trip Down Under was crazier because of her divorce announcement earlier in the week.
Gossip Cop confirms that security hired a decoy to allow Kim to sneak out quickly and quietly, without any fuss. "The real Kim [and her sister Khloe] reportedly had arrived shortly before [the decoy], using the loading dock to make an under-the-radar departure," reports GC.
This is certainly not the first time that a decoy had to be used to ensure the safety of a celebrity. Britney Spears often uses decoys to allow her to get from one place to the next without the paparazzi causing a major problem.
The Kingly Club in London's Soho recently began employing doubles to act as decoys, which it hopes will knock certain photographers off the scent of visiting celebrities.
A spokesman said the idea came after Hollywood actor Tom Cruise was provided with a decoy when he visited the venue.

LOL @ Kim Kardashian having one. You mean there was actually a moment when she didn't want to be photographed?
