:o The beat in Asylum? It's horrible.

No, it's one of the best beats Eminem has rapped on in about a decade. A simple drum pattern, a simple bass line, with a bit of guitar and synth in the chorus. That's all you need. Hate to use a cliched phrase, but less is more. Beats should only ever complement the lyrics.

Instrumentals like My Name Is, Who Knew and Kill You are brilliant for this reason. The kind of beats that make you want to listen to what the rappers are saying.

You like Won't Back Down, which makes me think you're a fan of beats where there are one thousand instruments and sounds going on at once. When I listen to Won't Back Down, I don't give a single shit what Eminem is saying.

You're right. I'd take Loud Noises, Session One and Won't Back Down over those songs any day... It's not that I don't like those songs, he just sounds so much better in these songs with heavy beats...
Damn, I listen to rock, metal and even dubstep more than I listen to rap. Eminem is an exception. I just like those beats and when it sounds like he's yelling than ''Hi, my name is... what?'' Sorry, but that's what I like, you don't have to agree. I still love Kill You to death, though.

I don't think the song's a let down at all. This is Slaughterhouse's album. You already have 4 really good rappers you don't need another one crowding the track, Em on production and the hook is enough. The production is very good here. It's clean and simple and lets the lyrics and flows be the focus. You can tell Em created it with a specific purpose in mind. He could have put some loud guitars and horns and all that on it but it wasn't necessary. I hope he does more of this on his album. You don't need a bunch of overrated producers. When he uses a bunch of different producers the album tends to lack consistency. It just sounds like a bunch of rapping over random beats. Hook-wise and Beat-wise Em knows what he's doing better than most producers anyway.

It's AWSOME!
I can't understand why 'my life' and 'throw that' released a single not this one.

asylum is pretty good but i think you're overrating it here. yeah the beat is good and he kills the hook, but compared to a song like goodbye it's just average

The simplicity of the beat works, but I think it sounds quite weak. It needs a bit more bass or a bit more 'umph' to really lift it. Compare it to the beat from (Remember Me) or Amytiville and it's clear how it pales in comparison. And whilst this beat might work for other tracks, it definitely doesn't suit an 'asylum' feel.

I love Em's production but this beat is just ok to me, great hook though. I'm disappointed that he didn't have a verse.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

The transition between the verses and the chorus is just so damn awkward. It makes it like a broken formula if anything.
